How many golf balls are on the moon? We have the answer!

There's apparently a load of rubbish on the moon's surface, and some golf balls...

Now here's something you probably didn't expect to hear about this weekend. Golf balls on the moon!

According to NASA, in the Apollo 14 mission back in 1971, astronaut Alan Shepard decided to modify an 8-iron clubhead and attach it to the end of a device used to collect samples of moon dust.

Alan proceeded to smack a few balls which he then left on the moon. Apparently he claimed he had the perfect golf swing and the balls travelled for "miles and miles", but video footage proved otherwise and he actually duffed many of his shots.

We'll let him off given those spacesuits look pretty chunky. Waterproof golf jackets are difficult enough to swing in.

But back to our initial discussion and NASA can confirm there are only TWO GOLF BALLS on the moon.

They have yet to reveal whether they are Pro V1s, TP5s or Top Flites, though.

There are hundreds of other items on the moon, too, including a gold olive branch, a falcon feather, a portrait of James Irwin, 100 $2 bills, and a javelin. There’s also quite a few sick bags, although NASA calls these ’emesis’ bags.

So there you have it. If you ever find yourself on the moon, there are two golf balls waiting for you.
