Amgen Irish Open Betting Tips: Expert Picks to take on Rory McIlroy at Trump Doonbeg

The Amgen Irish Open heads to Trump Doonbeg, with one of the strongest fields in recent tournament history assembled on the County Clare coast.

Rory McIlroy returns as defending champion and the clear headline act as he bids to win the DP World Tour's Irish Open for a third time. 

Jon Rahm is chasing the same feat, while Tyrrell Hatton, Robert MacIntyre, Patrick Reed, Brooks Koepka and Joaquin Niemann are also among the star names in the field.

With Trump Doonbeg hosting the Irish Open for the first time, there is no previous tournament course form to study. 

It also means recent form, class and a player's ability to adapt to the demands of links golf will prove particularly important this week, especially given wind speeds of 20mph.

And he's taking on World No.2 and defending champion McIlroy (13/2).

PICK 1: JON RAHM – 12/1 (Outright)

McIlroy might be a clear favourite off the back of third and fourth-place finishes in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, but at 12/1, Jon Rahm looks the more appealing outright proposition at nearly double the odds of the defending champion.

Like McIlroy, Rahm is already a two-time Irish Open winner and has a proven record of enjoying golf in Ireland. While there is no course form to lean on at Doonbeg, the Spaniard's pedigree and ability make him difficult to ignore at double-figure odds.

Rahm arrives after a two-week break, having finished runner-up at LIV Golf Indianapolis in his most recent start. That result came after a relatively quiet summer by his standards, but a return to contention should have provided an important confidence boost heading into the final stretch of the season.

There is no question Rahm has plenty to prove. He has not always been at his brilliant best in recent months, but he remains one of the most talented players in the world and has the class to dominate a field like this when everything clicks.

With several DP World Tour events still to come, Rahm will be eager to finish the season strongly. At 12/1, we think he represents excellent value to claim a third Irish Open title.

Verdict: Rahm's recent runner-up finish could be the spark he needs. At nearly twice McIlroy's price, he's our outright selection.

PICK 2: MATT WALLACE – 28/1 (Each-way, 1/5 odds, first five places)

Matt Wallace arrives at Doonbeg in some of his best form of the season and looks a strong each-way play at 28/1.

The Englishman has recorded finishes of tied fifth, tied 15th, tied seventh and tied ninth in his last four starts across the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. 

That level of consistency makes him particularly appealing at a tournament where you will need full control of your golf ball. 

Wallace has also made no secret of his Ryder Cup ambitions after several near misses in the past. With the qualification process for the 2027 contest already underway, he will be desperate to build momentum and put himself firmly on Luke Donald's radar. A win in Ireland would represent a major statement and deliver his first DP World Tour title in two years. 

While Rahm and McIlroy possess greater star power, Wallace's recent form gives him every chance of being in contention on Sunday.

Verdict: Four strong finishes in his last four starts make Wallace one of the most attractive each-way bets in the field, with 1/5 odds available for a top-five finish.

PICK 3: SERGIO GARCIA – 80/1 (Each-way, 1/5 odds, first five places)

At 46, Sergio Garcia still possesses more than enough talent to challenge at this level, and 80/1 looks a huge price for a player beginning to show encouraging signs.

Garcia arrives in decent form after a tied 11th at LIV Golf New York and a tied third at LIV Golf Indianapolis. 

He also produced some eye-catching golf in Switzerland last week, including a bogey-free 63 on Friday and a closing 66.

Perhaps the biggest positive has been his putting. 

Garcia has traditionally been one of the game's finest ball-strikers, but his performances on the greens have often held him back. 

A recent switch to a broomstick putter, however, appears to have given him greater confidence.

The 2017 Masters champion is also highly motivated to make his mark again on the DP World Tour as he looks towards a possible return in 2027, and who knows, maybe even one last appearance on the European Ryder Cup team in 12 months time. 

Garcia, who is the all-time record points scorer in Ryder Cup history, has the experience and class to compete with anyone in this field.

Verdict: There is obvious risk at 80/1, but Garcia's recent form and improved putting make him an excellent value each-way outsider, with 1/5 odds for the first five places.
