Exclusive: Sergio Garcia confirms three more DP World Tour starts this season and 2027 return

Sergio Garcia has confirmed to GolfMagic that he will make three more DP World Tour appearances before the end of the 2026 season — and has already informed Wentworth HQ that he intends to return as an official member in 2027.

Garcia has told GolfMagic he will return to DP World Tour action at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland before also teeing it up at the Amgen Irish Open and Open de España.

The 46-year-old's decision represents a significant step towards rebuilding his relationship with the circuit he first left more than three years ago after joining LIV Golf.

"I've already informed them [DP World Tour HQ] that I will be taking my membership next season," Garcia confirmed to GolfMagic.

Garcia's return to the former European Tour will begin at a tournament he knows well.

The 2017 Masters champion will compete at the Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club from 3-6 September, before travelling to the Amgen Irish Open at Trump International Golf Links from 10-13 September.

Garcia will then return to home soil for the Open de España at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid from 8-11 October.

The upcoming appearances will take Garcia's total number of DP World Tour starts in 2026 to five, and above the required four to regain his membership for the 2027 season. 

His first two DP World Tour starts of the season came at the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship in February, where he finished tied fourth, and the BMW International Open in July, where he missed the cut.

Garcia competed in The Masters as a former champion, but finished the week in solo 52nd.

Without a DP World Tour card this season, Garcia, who is ranked 177th in the world right now, has been reliant on invitations to compete on the circuit.

That is set to change next year though, with the Spaniard confirming he has already approached Wentworth HQ for his 2027 membership well in advance of the 15 November deadline.

Garcia relinquished his DP World Tour card in May 2023 after becoming one of the biggest names to join LIV Golf in 2022.

His move to the breakaway league resulted in penalties after he played LIV events in breach of the DP World Tour's Conflicting Tournament Regulation.

He later settled fines of around $1 million in an attempt to regain membership and make himself eligible for Luke Donald's European Ryder Cup team in 2025.

Garcia ultimately missed out on selection and subsequently lost his card again after failing to satisfy the minimum number of appearances required for automatic renewal.

Now, however, Garcia is ready to return.

All three of Garcia's upcoming DP World Tour starts in Switzerland, Ireland and Spain hold a special place in his heart. 

He won the Omega European Masters back in 2005, won his first ever European Tour event at the 1999 Irish Open, and won his home Spanish Open title in 2002. 

Garcia's schedule update comes as LIV Golf's 2026 season approaches its conclusion.

In 11 starts so far on LIV this year, Garcia has chalked up three top-10 finishes. 

The league's planned $40 million Team Championship, scheduled for 27-30 August, has now officially been cancelled, meaning next week's LIV Golf event in Indianapolis will mark the end of the circuit's season.

For Garcia's Fireballs GC, the cancellation is a blow, but the Spaniard is looking ahead.

"It is what it is so we just have to move on and concentrate on next week and finishing the year well on the DP World Tour," Garcia told GolfMagic.

The uncertainty surrounding LIV Golf also means there is plenty still to be determined about Garcia's wider schedule for 2027.

What is clear, however, is that he wants to be a DP World Tour member once again.

Garcia remains one of the most decorated players of his generation, with 11 wins on the PGA Tour and 16 on the European Tour, with the highlight of his career to date winning the 2017 Masters in a playoff over Justin Rose.

He also remains the all-time leading Ryder Cup points scorer with 28.5 points, having played in 10 contests (1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2021). 

Under current DP World Tour rules, Garcia is ineligible to captain a European Ryder Cup side as a result of previously resigning his membership — but if those rules are relaxed in the future then it could be something of interest to the Spaniard later down the line. 

For now, however, Garcia will compete at LIV Golf Indianapolis next week and then turn his attention towards Switzerland, Ireland and Spain.— all on the DP World Tour. 

Garcia will then host a fifth annual FORE Kids ATX event alongside his wife Angela and their good friends Chris Harrison and Lauren Zima from 29-30 October, giving him the chance to round off a busy few weeks by giving back to a cause close to his heart.
