Golf fans divided over what awaits Rory McIlroy and co. at Dubai Invitational

Rory McIlroy will begin his season this week at the inaugural Dubai Invitational on the DP World Tour. 

One thing McIlroy and the rest of the field will have to face is the daunting tee shot at Dubai Creek's par-4 sixth hole. 

As illustrated by the official DP World Tour social media team below, the tee box sits in the water with views of downtown Dubai. 

There is no doubt it will provide a tougher test for amateurs compared to the professionals and the likes of McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood will not think twice about the water. 

But it has caused a little bit of a stir on X, with some golf writing they viewed it as a cool feature. Others simply asked what the point if it was.

The Dubai Invitational is the first DP World Tour event of the year and the first of the International Swing. 

The former European Tour announced a radical shake-up to their schedule for 2024. 

The International Swing will see tournaments take place in the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kenya and South Africa. 

Min Woo Lee was crowned the champion of the Opening Swing after his exploits in Australia.
