Jon Rahm delivers telling response to LIV Golf exit speculation ahead of Irish Open

Jon Rahm has refused to confirm whether he will remain with LIV Golf in 2027, admitting there are still “a lot of things that could happen” as speculation over his future continues to grow.

The Spaniard is back on the DP World Tour this week at the Irish Open, where questions over his next move have followed him to Doonbeg.

Rahm, who joined LIV Golf in late 2023 in a deal reportedly worth around $350 million, has become one of the league’s biggest stars. 

The two-time major champion has also won three consecutive Individual Championships since making the switch.

However, uncertainty surrounding LIV Golf’s future has prompted fresh reports that Rahm could be preparing to leave the Saudi-backed circuit ahead of the 2027 season.

When asked whether he knows where he will be playing next year, Rahm offered little clarity.

“There's just a lot of things in place, right? There's a lot of things that could happen and it's one of those things where time's gonna tell,” Rahm told BBC Sport Northern Ireland, in a video you can watch below. 

Asked whether the situation had changed since his previous interview, the 31-year-old added: “Yes and no, it hasn't really changed from my last interview in Indianapolis a few weeks ago.”

It means the Legion XIII captain is continuing to keep his cards close to his chest, despite reports linking him with a potential LIV departure.

Rahm also appeared relaxed about the uncertainty, suggesting that his experience since joining LIV has prepared him for periods of instability.

“To be fair for us people that joined LIV, I'm pretty good at dealing with turbulence,” he said.

LIV Golf is currently undergoing a period of major change after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund withdrew its financial backing of the league. 

The organisation is now exploring alternative investment, with BC Partners reportedly among the leading candidates to help shape LIV’s next phase from 2027 onwards.

Rahm’s future could therefore depend not only on his own ambitions, but also on what LIV ultimately looks like beyond the current season.

When asked about the possibility of returning to the PGA Tour, following the decisions of fellow major champions Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed to leave LIV, Rahm again offered no definitive answer.

“We'll see what happens,” he said.

For now, Rahm's attention is firmly on the Amgen Irish Open.

Rahm is a two-time winner of the event, having triumphed at Portstewart in 2017 before successfully defending his title at Lahinch in 2019. 

He is bidding to become only the second Spaniard after his childhood hero Seve Ballesteros to win the tournament three times.

After Doonbeg, Rahm will head to Wentworth for next week’s BMW PGA Championship.

With the 2027 picture still unclear, however, every appearance on the DP World Tour is likely to bring another round of questions about what comes next.
