What is the format for the LIV Golf Team Championship?
Format and schedule for the final week of the 2025 LIV Golf League season.
The LIV Golf season will conclude this week with the Team Championship, but what is the format for the big finale in Michigan?
Legion XIII, captained by individual championship winner Jon Rahm, will start the week as favourites for the team title having topped the table after week 13 in Indianapolis, finishing 62 points clear of Bryson DeChambeau's Crushers GC.
The final week features both matchplay and strokeplay at The Cardinal at Saint John's in Plymouth, with a "play-in" beginning the schedule on Wednesday at LIV Golf's 13 teams are whittled down to 12.
Wednesday | Play-In Eliminator: Majesticks v Iron Heads | Matchplay - 2 singles, 1 foursomes |
Friday | 12 Quarter-finals | Matchplay - 2 singles, 1 foursomes in each match, captain's of higher-ranked teams choose match-ups |
Saturday | Six Semi-finals, six ranking deciders | Matchplay - 2 singles, 1 foursomes in each match, captain's of higher-ranked teams choose match-ups |
Sunday | The Final | Strokeplay - All four scores count on each hole. Lowest score from top three teams wins LIV Golf Team title |
The Majesticks will take on Kevin Na's Iron Heads as the two lowest-ranked teams fight for the right to play one more weekend, with the winner-takes-all match-up consisting of two individual matchplay battles and one foursomes clash.
Once completed, the draw for Friday's six quarter-finals will be decided based on rankings, with each match using the same format as Wednesday's eliminator. One significant quirk - the captains of the six higher rankings teams get to choose each match-up.
Friday's quarter-final winners will advance to championship weekend and, unlike last year, the six defeated teams will continue to play on to determine final ranking points and prize money.
Saturday's semi-finals will again use the same matchplay format, with two singles and one foursomes match, with the three winning teams advancing to Sunday's grand final.
The final day reverts back to strokeplay and features all 48 players on the 12 teams. All four scores count on each hole, and the outcome is simple - lowest overall score wins!
LIV Golf have not yet confirmed the prize money for the 14th and final week of the 2025 season, but it is expected to be similar to last year's total pot of $50million, with Cam Smith's Ripper GC sharing a cool $14million as team champions.
Rahm will be hoping for a double celebration having scooped the individual season title in Chicago on Sunday, earning a cool $18million bonus.
