LIV Golf UK R1 Leaderboard: Niemann, Meronk, Grace lead after first 18 holes at JCB

LIV Golf UK Round 1 Scores: Three players share the lead on 6-under par after the first round at LIV Golf UK at JCB in Uttoxeter, England.

Joaquin Niemann, Branden Grace and Adrian Meronk fired rounds of 6-under 65 to share the lead after the first round of LIV Golf UK at JCB.

Niemann, who missed the cut at The Open last week, made the bold decision to fire both his caddie and coach on the eve of LIV Golf's 11th tournament of the season.

But the call has seemingly paid off for the record six-time LIV Golf winner, who surged to the top of the board after the first 18 holes.

Meronk and Grace matched Niemann's target late in the day and the trio find themselves one shot clear of Bubba Watson, Carlos Ortiz and home favourite Lee Westwood.

English duo Paul Casey and Tyrrell Hatton are also off to hot starts at 4-under par alongside Marc Leishman and Caleb Surratt.

Pre-tournament favourite Bryson DeChambeau is also in the hunt at 3-under par.

A total of 19 players find themselves within three shots of the lead.

Defending champion Jon Rahm had a day to forget with a disappointing level par 71.

Bryson on the charge.

He sends home a 15 footer for birdie at the par-5 10th.

Three behind.

15:37
Reed takes the lead

Reed -5 (10*)

Reed takes the outright lead after getting up and down from the greenside bunker on the par-5 13th.

The former Masters champion is looking to notch his second LIV Golf title in the space of a month - and send a timely reminder to Keegan Bradley ahead of the Ryder Cup.

15:24
Rahm birdie

Rahm Par (8)

Rahm makes his first birdie of the day at the par-4 8th.

He curls home a 15 footer from right to left smack bang in the heart.

The defending champ is four back.

15:22
Watson one back

Watson -3 (9*)

Watson moves one back with a tap-in birdie on the short par-4 12th.

15:20

The giant Pole is seeking a second career win on LIV Golf.

15:08
Poults on the move

Poulter -2 (8*)

England's Poulter rolls in a second birdie of the round to progress nicely to 2-under par.

Poulter has yet to register a victory on LIV Golf, so it would be some place for him to do it on home turf this Sunday.

15:04

Koepka has clawed his way back to 2-over par after a tough start to the round.

15:00

Bryson DeChambeau
Bryson DeChambeau
14:42
Niemann on fire

Niemann -4 (6*)

Niemann cans a 35 footer for another birdie on the 7th, his 6th of the round.

The Chilean, who as we say fired his caddie and coach on the eve of LIV Golf UK, is off to a flying start.

The record six-time LIV Golf winner very much looks to be the man to beat already at this early stage.

14:37
Ancer one back

Ancer -2 (6*)

Ancer rolls in a 20 footer for birdie on the 10th to move one shot off the pace.

The Mexican who represents the Fireballs gave GolfMagic insight into one of his favourite putting drills on the eve of LIV Golf UK.

Watch it here:

14:35
Smith in contention

Smith -2 (6*)

Smith rolls in a birdie on the 8th to move one shot back on 2-under par.

The Ripper GC captain has not been at his best of late but one week can make a huge difference in our sport.

14:34
Ogletree joins the leaders

Ogletree -3 (6*)

After a bogey on his opening, Ogletree has turned his day around spectacularly by racing quickly to 3-under par.

He's just tucked away birdie on the 12th to join the leaders.

14:32
Jones bogey

Jones -3 (5)

Jones fails to get up and down on the par-3 14th and it leads to his first bogey of the round.

The 14th is the Party Hole, but it doesn't feel like it right now for the Australian.

The Ripper GC player is back into a tie for the lead on 3-under par.

HyFlyers flying

Quick update on the team event...

Mickelson's HyFlyers have raced out the gate in the first round.

They're an incredible 7-under par in the early stages.

A very long way to go mind.

13:57
Bogey for Bryson

DeChambeau +1 (3)

Disappointing bogey for the pre-tournament favourite, especially on the par-5 3rd.

DeChambeau went left with both his driver and approach shots and he could only find the front of the green with his third.

From there, Bryson went long with his birdie putt and his par attempt never threatened the hole from 15 feet.

DeChambeau falls to 1-over.

Bland and Grace join party

Bland -2 (3*), Grace - 2 (2*)

Bland has just holed out his second shot into the short par-4 12th to rocket straight to the top of the board on 2-under par.

That was his third hole.

Grace has also just dropped in a birdie on the 11th, his second hole of the round, to join the party at 2-under par.
