Cameron Smith's forgettable season continued with a missed cut at the Saudi International

The Australian was among a posse of LIV Golf stars in the field at Riyadh Golf Club this week for the finale of the International Series.

Former Open champion Smith, 32, shot consecutive rounds of level par to miss the 36-hole by two shots. It represented his sixth missed cut in a row.

Smith also endured a miserable major championship season, missing out on weekend action at the PGA Championship, Masters, US Open and The Open.

The golfer has now slipped to career-low 333rd in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Data Golf, which takes into account results on the breakaway tour, also paints a grim picture for Smith - with the Ripper captain now 102nd.

Scottie Scheffler is the top-ranked player in the OWGR and Data Golf.

Smith's downturn in form is quite remarkable, given that it was only three years ago he appeared to be at the very top of his game.

Before he left the PGA Tour, he won the coveted Players Championship in a dramatic play-off at TPC Sawgrass and backed that up with his first major triumph at the landmark 150th Open at St Andrews, pipping Rory McIlroy to the claret jug.

He joined LIV Golf for a reported $125m in August 2022, joining major champions such as Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed.

Smith has enjoyed success with LIV Golf, winning three times and enjoying team championship success with Ripper last season.

This season, he has enjoyed five top-10 finishes from the 13 'regular' events.

He will have two more opportunities this year to step into the winner's circle. Smith is in the field for the BMW Australian PGA Championship and the Australian Open.

The Australian Open takes place next week. The aforementioned McIlroy will also make the trip down under.

Min Woo Lee addresses Smith's form

Smith's form has caught the attention of compatriot Min Woo Lee.

Lee captured his first PGA Tour title this year in Houston and he will undoubtedly harbour aspirations to land a major title in his career.

That would undoubtedly prove more difficult for the 27-year-old if he switched to LIV Golf

Lee was linked with a switch to Smith's Ripper team over the summer but his manager and the golfer himself have denied he is planning a move.

He told the Associated Press that he never wants to miss a major championship

Lee also alluded to Smith's form, explaining: "Cam was one of the best players in the world before he went to LIV and I hope he can find a stride,” Lee said.

"Great golfers, over time, if there’s more holes, they’re probably going to come out on top.

"So hopefully we can see some good golf out of him.

"We have a practise round every time at the Masters and the majors so I hope for the best for him."
