Charley Hull has revealed how one wild night in Ibiza nearly left her with a tattoo across her forehead at just 17 years old — before her best friend stepped in to stop her.

The English golf star had been partying with her close friend James when she decided that getting inked across her head was a brilliant idea.

Thankfully, he had other ideas.

Instead of waking up with a permanent reminder of her teenage antics on her forehead, Hull ended up with a tattoo on her foot. The words? 'Hold Tight' — a phrase the pair regularly shared with each other.

Speaking in a candid Q&A with Golfweek, Hull recalled how the decision came about during a drunken night out.

"I got drunk when I was in Ibiza when I was 17 years old. Me and my friend James went out partying," she said.

"I was coming back from the club, and I thought it would be a great idea to get a tattoo across my head, because me and my best mate, James, our favourite thing we always said to each other was 'Hold tight, hold tight'."

James managed to talk her out of putting the tattoo on her forehead. However, the pair still went ahead with matching designs.

"He wouldn't let me get it on my forehead. Instead, I got it on my foot and it says, 'hold tight.' He got a matching one on his arm."

It was only the following morning that Hull realised quite how much she had got herself into.

Hull woke up with no memory of getting the tattoo

After returning to their hotel, Hull woke up hungover and noticed that her foot was wrapped in a plastic bag.

She had no idea why.

"We went back to the hotel, woke in the morning hungover, and I went to James, 'Bloody hell, was I that drunk last night?' I walked back with a plastic bag on my foot," she recalled.

James then explained what had happened during their night out.

"He said, 'No, Charlie. That's the wrapping after you've had your tattoo.' I was like, 'What? I got a tattoo?'"

He reminded her that she had wanted the words across her forehead, but that he had stopped her.

"He said, 'Yeah, you were trying to get it on your forehead and we had to stop you there.'"

It is probably fair to say Hull owes her friend a thank you for that intervention.

Charley Hull has another tattoo she wants removed

The Ibiza story was not the only revelation Hull made about her tattoos.

The 30-year-old revealed that she has three in total, including one dedicated to her friendship with fellow English golfer Georgia Hall.

The pair have matching lightning bolt designs, with Hull's on her right pinky and Hall's in the same position.

Hull explained that the tattoo represents their close relationship.

"I would say that we are electric together, you know what I mean? We got each other's back," she said.

Not every tattoo has quite the same sentimental value, however.

Hull also has the name of her former husband, English MMA fighter John 'Ozzie' Smith, inked on her wrist — and admitted that she has tried to get it removed.

"I've got one of my ex-husband's name on my wrist, which I've tried to get removed," she said.

Hull opens up about smoking, vaping and stress

Hull also spoke candidly about her efforts to move away from smoking and vaping, explaining that she has been using nicotine pouches for around a year and a half.

She said stress had played a role in her previous habits, revealing that she had initially turned to vaping before becoming concerned about how frequently she was doing it.

Hull explained that she had previously been prescribed Xanax but worried about becoming dependent on it, so decided to stop taking the medication.

She subsequently began vaping, before switching to cigarettes because she wanted to avoid vaping indoors.

Eventually, she moved away from smoking and vaping and started using nicotine pouches instead.

"I'm pretty strong minded when it comes to things, and, yeah, I find it pretty easy," Hull said.

She also revealed that she received an ADHD diagnosis around the period when she was prescribed Xanax.

The comments offered another glimpse into the golfer's life away from the course, where she has become known for speaking openly about her experiences.

Hull's personality shines through away from the golf course

Hull has become one of the most recognisable figures in women's golf, with her performances and outspoken personality attracting plenty of attention.

But her latest revelations show there is plenty more to her than what fans see during tournament weeks.

A teenage night out in Ibiza could easily have resulted in a very different look for the Englishwoman. Instead, thanks to James, the 'Hold Tight' tattoo ended up on her foot rather than across her forehead.

And while Hull may now be trying to remove one of her tattoos, her story from Ibiza is unlikely to be forgotten any time soon.
