Charlie Woods has thanked the AJGA and TaylorMade for putting on "such a great event" after coming up short on his title defence at an exclusive junior golf tournament.

The 17-year-old, who is a senior at the Benjamin School and son of legendary 15-time major champion Tiger Woods, was attempting to defend his title at last week's Team TaylorMade Invitational.

But despite opening with a superb 68, Charlie carded back-to-back rounds of 73 and ultimately finished in a share of 28th place alongside eight others in the 72-man field.

The Florida State golf commit generally played well, but had a poor hole in each round. Across the tournament, Charlie had 10 birdies, seven bogeys and three double bogeys.

California's Luke Ringkamp emerged the champion, carding a final-round 64 to reach 13-under and win by three. The highly-rated Miles Russell, who has appeared in one of Bryson DeChambeau's "Break 50" videos this year, tied for fourth.

"Special week at the Team TaylorMade Invitational," Charlie posted on Instagram.

"Grateful for the opportunity to come back and compete against some of the best junior players in the game.

"Thanks to the AJGA and TaylorMade for putting on such a great event."

Charlie won last year's event, shooting 15-under across three rounds at Streamsong Resort's Black Course.

The victory was a personal breakthrough for Charlie, who entered that week 604th in the AJGA rankings.

Charlie is currently ranked 13th.

Tiger is frequently spotted supporting his son inside the gallery ropes at junior golf events but was absent last week.

The 50-year-old has returned to Switzerland to continue an intensive 90-day rehab program.

In March, Tiger announced that he was "stepping away to seek treatment" following another car crash on 27 March.

Tiger overturned his Land Rover near his home in Jupiter, Florida, after clipping the rear of a truck.

He has been charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusal to take a urine test.

He denies the charges.

Tiger briefly returned to the United States to support his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Last week, it emerged that Tiger missed the deadline to register for The Open at Royal Birkdale.

It means Tiger will miss all majors for the second year in a row.

What is the Team Team TaylorMade Invitational?

The Team TaylorMade Invitational hosted its first tournament in 2021.

As the title suggests, invitations are sent out to the top-ranked junior golfers in the AJGA.
