"I'm devastated" - Multiple PGA Tour winner skipping BMW PGA Championship
Former BMW PGA Championship winner Billy Horschel has confirmed he is skipping the DP World Tour's flagship event to focus on improving his status on the PGA Tour.
A devastated Billy Horschel has confirmed he will miss the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth later this month.
The multiple PGA Tour winner is one of the few Americans who regularly makes the trip to Wentworth for the DP World Tour's flagship event.
Horschel has won the BMW PGA Championship twice, in 2021 and 2024, but will be absent from this year's Rolex Series event, which takes place from September 17-20.
The 39-year-old said in a video posted to social media he was "devastated" by the decision but needs to focus on securing his status on the PGA Tour next year.
"I'm going to have to skip the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth," he said.
"I'm devastated, I'm upset. It's a decision that was really tough to make.
"I think everyone understands how much I love this event, how much I've appreciated the support I've received since 2019.
"I'm truly proud and honoured to call myself a two-time champion of the event, and I'm going to miss everyone over this year.
"I'm going to miss playing Wentworth. I'm going to miss seeing all the guys on the DP World Tour."
Horschel's decision comes after a difficult period with injury.
He underwent right hip surgery in May 2025 and was side-lined for several months.
Horschel won the BMW PGA Championship for the first time in 2021, carding a final-round 65 to pip England's Laurie Canter to the title.
Three years later, Horschel got the better of Rory McIlroy in a sudden-death playoff.
He added: "It's something that I truly do love, and I think everyone sees the smile I have on my face when I play there every year.
"So, I'm wishing everyone a great event this year, and I look forward to seeing everyone in the years to come.
"So, thank you guys for your support, and have a great week at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth."
The BMW PGA Championship is one of the biggest events on the DP World Tour schedule and is part of the circuit's Rolex Series.
Several big names will be teeing it up this year.
McIlroy, Patrick Reed, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Shane Lowry, Ludvig Aberg, Viktor Hovland and Brooks Koepka are all in the field.
Jon Rahm was also recently added to the field.
