Tour pro who once taped his mouth shut makes disaster 13 (!) on par-4
Ryan McCormick made the nonuple-bogey during the second round of the Albertsons Boise Open.
Korn Ferry Tour pro Ryan McCormick endured a nightmarish afternoon on day two of the Albertsons Boise Open.
The 34-year-old needed to go low at Hillcrest Country Club to have any chance of making the cut after opening the tournament with a 5-over 76.
Instead, he finished dead last on 17-over par after racking up a nonuple-bogey 13 on his final hole of the day.
McCormick, who began on the back nine, made the massive score at the par-4 9th.
His first tee shot sailed miles left and out of bounds and he followed it up with four more tee shots that went in exactly the same direction.
His sixth tee shot, which represented his 11th stroke after penalties, finally found the left side of the fairway.
From there, he knocked his approach from 88 yards to 20 feet.
McCormick then managed to hole the lengthy putt for a rare nonuple-bogey 13.
It saw him return a card for a 12-over 83 and finish on 17-over.
McCormick's round was otherwise nondescript, with the American making three bogeys and 14 pars.
Unfortunately for McCormick, it represented his seventh missed cut of a frustrating season.
In April, opened up on his struggles during the Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club.
The Korn Ferry Tour veteran was struggling to control his temper tantrums on the course and felt he was distracting his playing partners.
It led him to make the decision to simply tape his mouth shut.
Opening up on the extreme decision at the time, McCormick said: "Having a not-so-fun time this year on the golf course.
"[I am] pretty angry and mad, so I figured … I've tried a lot of things, and I just figured I'd just shut myself up.
"So I put tape over my mouth. At this point, I've tried about everything. I've read a lot of books. I've talked to people.
"[I am] just too angry on the golf course, so I have run out of ideas, and I thought about the tape thing a couple weeks ago.
"Unfortunately came down to that today.
"I was hoping maybe that it would help me. Can't say that it did or didn't. It certainly makes you breathe."
He added: "I felt like Bane, like Batman, muzzle myself.
"I mean, I'm not like proud, I don’t want to create an experience for my playing partners that's not fair.
"And, you know, it's not fair to me either or other people. Having a tough time, and that was my solution today."
