Brooks Koepka confirmed for TGL 2027 as first player for new expansion team

Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka will join TGL for the 2027 season after being selected as the first player for the league’s inaugural expansion franchise, Motor City Golf Club.

The news was first reported by ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Wednesday morning, as the veteran football reporter briefly stepped away from the NFL news cycle to deliver a major golf scoop.

“Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka is joining TGL’s Motor City Golf Club as the team’s first player selected through the league’s expansion process,” Schefter posted on X.

Koepka will therefore become the first confirmed player for Motor City Golf Club, which will make its debut when TGL enters its third season in 2027.

Koepka and the Motor City Golf Club join TGL as the seventh team on the league. 

The indoor golf league for PGA Tour players was founded by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and TMRW Sports co-founder Mike McCarley, and has completed its first two seasons at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

The majority of PGA Tour stars are on the league with the exception of World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, who admits TGL doesn't fit into his playing schedule right now with a young family, on top of him residing in Texas. 

The SoFi Center will prove a particularly convenient venue for Koepka, who lives in nearby Jupiter with his wife Jena Sims and their son Crew.

Koepka's arrival also comes at an interesting point in his career.

The 36-year-old returned to the PGA Tour earlier this season after four years on LIV Golf, having left the then Saudi-backed league at the end of 2025. 

During his time with LIV, he won five individual events and captained Smash GC before departing, with Talor Gooch subsequently taking over as captain following the team's reformation as OKGC.

Koepka played 16 PGA Tour events during the 2026 season but failed to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, describing the outcome as “pretty pathetic”. 

His best finish came at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, where he tied for ninth, while he recorded six top-20 finishes.

The American's move to TGL also comes amid uncertainty surrounding LIV Golf's future following the conclusion of its 2026 season. 

Jon Rahm has been heavily linked with a potential departure, while the league's future under a reported new lead investor remains unclear.

For now, Koepka has a new competitive outlet as he looks to bounce back to his best form in 2027. 

Motor City Golf Club will begin play in 2027, although TGL has yet to announce its full schedule.
