What will be different about Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TGL in 2026

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TGL will begin its second season later this month - here are some key changes ahead of the 2026 season.

Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods' indoor golf league will return to our screens later this month. 

The second season of TGL will begin on 28 December, with New York's Rickie Fowler, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young facing off against Atlanta's Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Billy Horschel and Lucas Glover. 

TGL received mixed reviews for season one. More than one million tuned in to watch Woods' debut, whilst the league's findings suggest they were successful in their core aim of engaging a younger audience. 

There were, however, a few issues. Chief of which were problems with the simulator, uncompetitive blowouts, format confusion and some not convinced by simulator golf. 

TGL officials have made a few tweaks in an effort to make the in-person experience much better.

Match audio

Complimentary earbuds will be distributed to attendees of matches at the SoFi Center, giving them the ability to listen to the main ESPN broadcast or Sirius XM Radio. 

Alternatively, spectators could choose to listen to the players chatting on either team. 

You can also bring your own headphones and listen via Bluetooth. 

Seating

There are now 50 seats in the "lower bowl", bringing TGL spectators much closer to the action. 

Hospitality areas

TGL have built two new hospitality areas. 

The Mike's Hard Lemonade Stand is located on the north concourse, with a full bar service and multiple TVs. 

The Cîroc Athletic Club will deliver a premium hospitality experience. 

Fan Q&As

TGL have also promised fans to get more access to players on match day. 

Q&A sessions and "fireside chats" will be held. 

What other changes have been made?

TGL have announced plenty of changes elsewhere, based off the feedback from players, data and analytics. 

The green has been enlarged, offering more hole locations and different slopes. 

Some holes have been updated to offer higher risk-reward challenges. 

All six TGL teams have been given the opportunity to customize a hole. 

Graphics have been improved, with larger hitting boxes. 

In a press release, Andrew Mccauley, the chief technology officer of TMRW Sports, said: "After a successful inaugural season, we conducted a comprehensive review of data and earnings from all aspects of competition with players, teams and our broadcast partners to elevate the fan experience, enhance gameplay and create even more excitement for Season 2.

"These updates are part of our continued effort to increase drama, intrigue and dynamic moments while further challenging TGL's teams within SoFi Center's one-of-a-kind environment."
