Golfmagic tests out the new adidas Golf shoe that is already making giant strides on Tour early in 2014

Review: adizero One footwear

REVOLUTIONISING the fit, feel and shape of adidas Golf footwear, the new adizero One shoe has been specially-engineered from the ground up to include only what’s essential for peak performance and delivers everything a golfer needs to finish strong when it’s needed the most.

adizero one, as used by recent Tour winners including Qatar Masters champion Sergio Garcia and WGC-Matchplay champion Jason Day, features an ultra-light performance through advanced material development, midfoot and swing plane traction zones, low-profile design and bold, innovative aesthetics.

adidas Golf says the benefits of the stylish adizero one is that it reduces fatigue by providing support and delivers increased walking comfort, while bringing the foot closer to the ground for enhanced stability and feel.

Some of the key features behind adizero one include an ultra-light sprintskin+ one-piece upper with climaproof protection that delivers maximized comfort and a glove-like fit,  an external sprintweb TPU layer for unrivaled upper stability during lateral movements and a re-engineered sprintframe outsole powered by Pebax that features a wider base and added secondary traction for ultimate performance.

It also combines Swing Plane Traction featuring CenTraXion for ultimate grip and enhanced stability where it’s needed most and also the low-profile Stealth Cleat for greater surface area contact, more cushioning, improved green friendliness and Tour-proven traction.

Golfmagic verdict

The new adizero One golf shoe should be considered for any serious golfer looking to purchase for the new season ahead, writes Golfmagic's Michael Smyth.

Out of the box in the hero blue version, adidas Golf has ensured these shoes fit like a glove and they have also taken lightness to an all-new level.

At a time when every new golf shoe seems to be getting lighter and lighter but often compromising on stability and overall feel, the adidas Golf design team has finally come up with a lightweight golf shoe catering for all our needs.

As soon as I placed the adizero One in the palm of my glove, I could notice a difference not just in terms of weight but also with the overall design.

Weighing in at just 272g (10% lighter than the previous adizero shoe), these new babies have a strong yet lightweight sole that is approximately 20% wider and also features a new 7-cleat system with a special CenTraXion centralised spike.

Golf brands can often be criticised for their gimmick-like features, especially when it comes to golf shoes, but this unique central cleat actually makes a huge difference during the swing. The low-profile Stealth Cleat design is further example of adidas Golf engineering giving off the feeling the ground is literally below my feet, but in a comforting way. This in turn exudes more stability on not only walking but when swinging the club.

This shoe has not compromised style over performance in any way! After my first round the comfort level was just as good walking up the 18th as it was walking down the opener with not a sniff of uncomfortable traction.

Typically more of a classic-shoe-kind-of-guy I am pleased with this sporty addition to my growing collection. Whether you're a Three-Stripe loyalist or not, you should consider the new adizero one for this season. adidas Golf has well and truly taken comfort and performance to the next level.

Now win them!

Following the success of the adizero One shoe on Tour with early season wins for the likes of Sergio Garcia, Stephen Gallacher and Jason Day, Golfmagic has teamed up with adidas Golf to offer one lucky reader the chance to win a pair of the shoes in blue, worth £129.99
