Tiger Woods' Sun Day Red apparel brand has been a unique proposition since its very launch. It's golf gear engineered to the exact specifications of the greatest player alive, with no expense spared in terms of the technologies or materials used. It's also priced accordingly.

This makes Sun Day Red's clothes something of a unique status symbol in the game. There are plenty who attest that the gear is worth it, but that doesn't change the fact that $120 is a lot to pay for a plain polo shirt – regardless of the logo on the chest.

As such, it's probably fair to wonder exactly whether or not Woods' unique allure has been successful in getting people to warm to the brand. Are people really buying Sun Day Red clothes en masse? According to David Abeles, CEO of both Sun Day Red and TaylorMade CEO, they certainly are.

Abeles spoke to Front Office Sports at the PGA Show last week, where he was bullish on the brand's fast growth and future prospects. "Our revenues have grown faster than we ever could have ever expected," he said. "They’re truly remarkable. We’ve exceeded all of our revenue projections."

Sun Day Red is what Abeles described as a wholly-owned subsidiary of TaylorMade, however Woods, who serves as the face of the brand and who also plays with TaylorMade clubs, is believed to have equity. The brand's logo and name are, of course, all direct references to Woods' career and iconic attire.

Abeles also addressed the question as to whether or not Sun Day Red would expand its profile on tour beyond Tiger, who hasn't been seen at a professional tournament since the 2024 Open, saying that Sun Day Red has plans to expand its roster of contracted players. Highly-rated Australian Karl Vilips is currently the only contracted Sun Day Red player aside from Woods.

We can think of one prolific TaylorMade player who recently became a free agent.

"We’re absolutely working with more tour players to determine who can fit that criteria and those brand standards,” he said. “We’ll build a wonderful unified team, much like we have at TaylorMade."

Anyone who thought Sun Day Red might be a flash in the pan, then, is well and truly wrong.
