'Bones' to caddie for Thomas at WGC; Love steps down from CBS role

Jim 'Bones' Mackay will be on the bag of Justin Thomas at this week's WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational after Thomas' regular caddie has fallen ill.

Mackay, who mutually parted ways with Mickelson in 2017 following a relationship that had stood the test of 25 years, decided to come out of caddying to become an on-course analyst for NBC / Golf Channel.

But following a successful two-week appearance on Matthew Fitzpatrick's bag at Muirfield Village, where the Englishman finished third at The Memorial, the experienced caddie has been handed the bag of Thomas at this week's WGC tournament.

It will mark the second time that Thomas and Mackay have teamed up following their brief partnership at the 2018 Sony Open.

Mackay, 53, is standing in for Thomas' regular caddie Jimmy Johnson who has been experiencing dizziness ever since the third round of The Memorial.

Elsewhere, Davis Love III, 56, has chosen to step down as television commentator at CBS after just several months in the role.

The 21-time PGA Tour winner has decided to once again focus on his golf and spend more time at home with his family.

"CBS gave me a tremendous opportunity to be a member of their great golf team," tweeted Love.

"I appreciate and am in awe of the amazing work they produce each week. Since golf returned in June, CBS has allowed me time to focus on my family, play a few tournaments, and bring some stability back in a difficult year.

"I have realized in this time my passion to play is strong, and my heart yearns to be home,” he said in a Twitter post on July 28. “I thank Sean (McManus, chairman of CBS Sports), David (Berson), Harold (Bryant) and Lance (Barrow, CBS golf executive producer) and all the people at CBS Sports for their support and understanding and allowing me to step away from CBS.

"Beginning next week at the PGA Championship my focus returns to playing, and supporting my family."
