Jason Day has confirmed he has split with his long-time golf coach Colin Swatton and that he will now work on his own as he bids to work his way back up the world rankings.

Day and Swatton worked together for 20 years, with Swatton also acting as Day's caddie for all but two of his 12 PGA Tour titles.

Swatton quit cadding for Day in late 2017, and has since taken up a commentary role with the PGA Tour in recent months.

"It's been a long and successful road working with Col," Day told the PGA Tour. "I have just decided I want to make a change and work on my own as it pertains to my golf swing."

The former World No.1 and 2015 US PGA champion currently ranks 43rd as he lines up at this week's WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational at TPC Southwind.

Swatton first worked with Day when he was 12 years old at a golf boarding school, not long after the Australian had lost his father to cancer.

"Col has been way more than just a caddie and coach to me," said Day. "I am forever grateful for all he has done for my golf and his continued friendship."

Swatton said: "I am proud of what was accomplished but even more so I am proud of the man Jason has become. We will always remain close friends and I wish him well as he continues his journey."

He added: "It’s been a privilege to work with Jason since his childhood and I’ll always cherish the ride we’ve shared that took us all the way to the top of the golf world."

Day, who last won on the PGA Tour at the Wells Fargo in May 2018, has finished tied seventh and tied fourth in his last two starts heading into this week's tournament.

"My game feels like it is coming together at the right time so I’m looking forward to trying to maintain this momentum," said Day.
