The new PING Cadence TR Rustler putter features a combination of Variable Depth Groove and True Roll technology to help you hole more putts. 

PING is offering you two different head weights in each head shape with its new TR putter range. You can choose between a blue aluminium insert for a traditional weighted design or a black heavy stainless steel design.

We favoured the latter and could not be more impressed with the overall feel and distance control.

There is a consistent, predictable roll about this one aided by the Variable Depth Grooves, and we also received great feedback on off-centre strikes. We found we could not miss with this putter from close range. 

Its mallet head design may turn a few people away, especially as it looks a little closed at address, but we could not fault its strong alignment aid. The mid-size grip will also likely benefit players with a lot of "wrist" to their stroke. 

Verdict

While we slightly favoured the overall performance of the Cadence TR Anser 2 model, the Rustler certainly proved a forgiving, high MOI mallet. PING's True Roll technology once again instilled us with an abundance of forgiveness and those must-make short putts were tough to miss. A little pricey at £163 but worth a closer look if you are looking for a premium mallet this season.
