Golf legend Greg Norman has followed up his use of the TaylorMade TP Red golf ball with which he rolled back the years to lead the Open into the final round at Royal Birkdale last year, by signing for the Basingstoke-based club and ball manufacturers.

Norman (54) will play TaylorMade clubs, TaylorMade TP golf balls and use a TaylorMade staff bag while displaying the brand on his distinctive headwear.

"It started with the TP ball, which I played at the Open and I'm pleased that the discussions have evolved to the extent that I am now a member of the TaylorMade Staff," said Norman who spent 331 weeks as world No.1 in the 1980s and 1990s, has won The Open twice, as well a 91 tournaments worldwide. "Their approach to the game and equipment design is very similar to my own,"

His improbable run at last year's Open earned him an invitation to next week's US Masters, for the first time since 2002.

In preparation for Augusta, TaylorMade technicians have fit him for a full set of TaylorMade TP irons and the new R9 driver to promote tee shots that roll out after landing for increased distance.

"Our relationship with Greg Norman is really a throw back to the way business used to be done," said TaylorMade-adidas President, Mark King. "Greg let us know prior to last year's Open Championship that he was going to play our TP Red ball and has since started testing our the technology capable of maximising his incredible talent. From our perspective, it is exciting to be working with Greg and seeing him go out there and give these guys all they can handle."
