Bryson DeChambeau sparks LIV Golf questions after fans spot major apparel change

Bryson DeChambeau has given golf fans plenty to talk about away from the course in recent months, and his latest content shoot has prompted fresh questions about his future.

The Crushers GC captain was recently spotted filming at Honeybrook Golf Club, but eagle-eyed fans noticed something unusual.

DeChambeau was not wearing his familiar Crushers GC or LIV Golf apparel.

That might ultimately prove to be nothing more than a clothing choice. However, given the uncertainty currently surrounding LIV Golf and DeChambeau's increasingly prominent role as a content creator, the timing has inevitably caught people's attention.

DeChambeau has become one of the biggest names in golf's YouTube world, regularly producing videos on his own channel and collaborating with some of the sport's most recognisable personalities.

On Monday, the 33-year-old announced a new $100,000 series featuring a number of prominent YouTube golfers.

It should be noted, however, DeChambeau was in his normal LIV Golf apparel when filming that particular content. 

DeChambeau's content operation has become an increasingly important part of his profile, and the big-hitting American has previously spoken openly about the possibility of pursuing content creation even more seriously in the future. 

As it stands, he has created one of the biggest YouTube Golf channels in the world, largely aided by his entertaining 'Break 50' series with sporting stars and prominant figures from around the world. 

There is also a wider reason why fans are paying such close attention to the LIV players' next moves.

During last week's BMW PGA at Wentworth, both Jon Rahm and Joaquin Niemann were asked about their futures under a potential LIV Golf 2.0.

As expected, Rahm remained non-committal, while Niemann was similarly unable to confirm his plans. 

When asked directly whether he had committed to playing LIV in 2027, Niemann replied: "No, nothing yet."

While Rahm and Niemann were keeping their cards close to their chests about their respective futures, both players continued to wear their respective LIV Golf team outfits during the tournament. 

Tyrrell Hatton also remained in his familiar Legion XIII gear throughout the week.

That obviously does not prove anything about the players' contractual situations or future decisions, but it is an interesting detail when compared with DeChambeau's latest appearance on the course this week. 

The two-time U.S. Open champion was spotted away from the LIV environment entirely, filming content without his usual Crushers GC branding.

The timing comes as LIV Golf's future remains unclear following reports surrounding plans for a revamped operation in 2027.

The Financial Times reported on Monday that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) is seeking further assurances from private equity firm BC Partners over its commitment to a proposed LIV Golf relaunch under a 2.0 model in 2027. 

PIF confirmed earlier this year that it would pull the plug on future funding of the league past this season, and it has left LIV Golf in a race against time to secure future investment and keep their star players on board for next season. 

Telegraph Sport recently published a report that some officials on the league were "almost resigned" to Rahm's departure from the league. 

It should be noted just because DeChambeau is not filming content in his normal Crushers GC gear this week that he is preparing to walk away from LIV Golf.

Indeed, he has arguably been one of the more vocal LIV players when discussing the possibility of a future version of the league beyond 2026.

But it would certainly be something of a worry for LIV Golf fans hoping DeChambeau extends his contract into 2027. 

DeChambeau is also not the only LIV player to have appeared in recent YouTube content without his usual team apparel. 

Fireballs GC captain Sergio Garcia was also recently spotted filming a video with Mark O'Meara without his regular LIV Golf clothing.

That provides a useful reminder that there could be a much simpler explanation, particularly when players are filming content designed primarily for their personal channels rather than official LIV Golf programming.

For now, there is no confirmation that DeChambeau's latest appearance has anything to do with his playing future.

But with LIV Golf's next chapter still being negotiated, several of its biggest stars yet to publicly commit to the proposed 2027 model, and DeChambeau continuing to expand his presence away from traditional professional golf, even a small change is enough to get fans looking twice.
