LIV Golf has extended the deadline for players to decide whether they will commit to the league's next chapter, giving its stars almost two additional weeks to weigh up their futures.

The deadline has been moved from October 13 to October 25, with players now given more time to consider whether they want to sign up to LIV 2.0.

The extension comes at a crucial moment for the league, with its restructuring beginning to take shape and BC Partners Credit announcing an initial committed investment as part of a targeted $300 million financing package.

The proposed new structure could also give LIV Golf players a major say in the competition's future.

Under the plans, players will have the opportunity to become equity owners in both LIV Golf and their individual teams, meaning they could have a direct financial stake in the league they compete in.

That could prove significant as players decide whether to remain with LIV beyond the 2026 season.

And there are some huge decisions to be made over the next two weeks.

There have been rumours in recent weeks that LIV superstar Jon Rahm is unlikely to continue with the league, while his Legion XIII and European Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton is also expected to depart.

However, nothing has been confirmed regarding either player's future at this stage.

BC Partners will also be keen to retain Bryson DeChambeau, arguably LIV's headline player given his huge popularity on YouTube and his ability to attract an audience beyond traditional golf coverage.

Joaquin Niemann, meanwhile, confirmed earlier this week that he has still not made up his mind over whether he will remain with LIV, while there is also uncertainty surrounding the future of Sergio Garcia.

In other words, LIV's biggest names now have a major decision to make: will they stick or twist?

BC Partners will clearly want the biggest and best players to remain as it looks to build the next iteration of the league around a more sustainable, player-owned and team-focused model.

The proposed changes also come with some significant differences to the LIV Golf product fans have become accustomed to.

The 2027 schedule is expected to feature fewer tournaments than in previous LIV seasons, while prize purses are also expected to be reduced.

That could make the decision even more complicated for some players, particularly those who have established themselves as stars of the LIV circuit but now have to weigh up the financial and competitive appeal of its next phase.

BC Partners Credit Partner and Head of Credit Ted Goldthorpe said the investment was intended to put LIV on a stronger financial footing while giving players an opportunity to help shape its future.

"Our goal is to facilitate LIV Golf's emergence from the restructuring process on sound financial footing and with renewed momentum heading into the 2027 season," Goldthorpe said.

"Just as importantly, we want the players who make this league what it is to share in what they help build."

Goldthorpe also invited LIV players to commit to the league's next phase, saying the opportunity could help create a "strong, sustainable, team golf league".

The deadline extension therefore gives players additional time to assess exactly what that future could look like before making a decision.

The changes follow the end of the Saudi Public Investment Fund's investment in LIV after the 2026 season, marking a significant transition for the league after its initial years of development.

LIV CEO Scott O'Neil welcomed the BC Partners investment and said the league was making progress towards becoming a "player-owned, team-focused, truly global league".

The financing is still subject to Bankruptcy Court approval and customary conditions, but the latest developments provide a clearer picture of LIV's plans for 2027 and beyond.

For now, the focus turns to October 25.

With the player deadline extended, LIV's stars have more time to decide whether they want to be part of the league's next era — and potentially become owners in the process.
