Golf fans fuming that LIV Golf is still selling tickets for cancelled Team Championship

The LIV Golf Team Championship final in Michigan has been cancelled amid weeks of uncertainty surrounding the event.

Telegraph Sport's James Corrigan broke the news earlier on Wednesday that LIV players have now been told that the $40m Team Championship isn’t going ahead at the end of August. There has still yet to have been an official statement from the league, however.

Now, you would think that once an event is cancelled, no more tickets would go on sale for said tournament.

But remarkably, tickets are still available to purchase for the now-cancelled event on the LIV Golf website. 

Ticket prices range from $26 for Thursday's opening round to $52 for Saturday's third round, while fans can also purchase a four-day pass for $124.

The cancellation of the final event of the season has arguably been one of the worst-kept secrets in golf over the past few weeks.

When pressed on the status of the Team Championship ahead of last week's tournament, LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil said: “We have not made any final formal decisions and hope to in the coming weeks.”

But a week on, it has now been confirmed by the Telegraph that the Team Championship will not be taking place from 27-30 August. 

Telegraph Sport's Corrigan has since expressed his frustration on X that LIV Golf is not only still advertising tickets on its official website, but also still sending emails about them. 

“Just received this email off LIV. It's out of order IMO,” he posted.

LIV Golf's uncertain future

A few weeks ago, it looked as though 2026 could be the final LIV Golf season, with the league struggling to find an investor ahead of the 2027 campaign.

The Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) withdrew its funding earlier this year, having reportedly lost more than £1 billion over five years.

O'Neil confirmed last week that he has since found a new investor, with a deal worth around $250 million, according to the New York Post.

While the immediate future of the breakaway league appears slightly more positive, O'Neil and LIV Golf still have significant changes to make ahead of the 2027 season. One of them is halting Michigan ticket sales.
