LIV Golf leaderboard at The Masters: There are 10 players from the breakaway tour teeing it up at the first men's major of the year.

Round one of the 2026 Masters is complete.

Defending champion, Rory McIlroy, got off to the best possible start as he looks to become only the fourth person in history to successfully defend the green jacket.

McIlroy, who previously described himself as the king of shooting a level par opening round of 72 at Augusta National, admitted he exceeded his expectations with a five-under 67 on Thursday.

He is joined at the top of the leaderboard by American Sam Burns.

Former champion and ex-LIV Golf recruit, Patrick Reed, is among a host of players to have also made a fast start to the first men's major of the year and is only two behind the Northern Irishman.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is how the contingent of LIV Golf players in the field are getting on.

Following Phil Mickelson's decision to withdraw ahead of the 2026 Masters for personal reasons, there are a total of 10 LIV Golf players in action this week.

Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm were expected to mount challenges for the green jacket, but will consider themselves fortunate if they make the 36-hole cut on Friday.

DeChambeau came unstuck at Amen Corner, taking three shots to get out of a greenside bunker at the 11th hole and never truly recovered, slumping to an opening four-over 76.

Rahm, the 2023 Masters champion, carded an error-strewn six-over 78 and admitted he needed a herculean effort if he is to slip on the green jacket on Sunday.

Sergio Garcia, also a former Masters champion having defeated Justin Rose in a playoff in 2017, was the only player to not finish over par.

Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin, Charl Schwartzel, Bubba Watson and Carlos Ortiz are all in danger of missing the cut.
