Late withdrawal confirmed as The Open Last-Chance Qualifier tee times are released
The R&A has updated the 12-man field after a last-minute change, with Wesley Bryan among those chasing the final place at Royal Birkdale.
Marcus Helligkilde has withdrawn from Monday's Last-Chance Qualifier for The Open Championship, with amateur Frazer Jones taking his place in the 12-man field at Royal Birkdale.
The R&A confirmed the late change after releasing the updated field for the 18-hole stroke play event, which will take place on Monday 13 July.
No reason has been given for Helligkilde's withdrawal.
The Dane has endured a difficult spell in recent years. Helligkilde underwent neck surgery in 2024 and did not touch a golf club for more than 18 months during his recovery.
He made his long-awaited return to the DP World Tour in Spain less than two months ago but missed the cut in his comeback event and has not competed in a tournament since.
The winner of Monday's Last-Chance Qualifier will claim the final place in the 156-man field for the 154th Open Championship, which begins three days later at Royal Birkdale.
Play is scheduled to get underway at 7:30am BST, with just one coveted spot available.
One of the biggest names in the field is YouTube golf star and former PGA Tour winner Wesley Bryan.
Bryan, 36, came agonisingly close to securing his place at The Open through Final Qualifying at West Lancashire last month.
The American needed only a par on the final hole to reach a sudden-death playoff but instead made bogey after missing a putt from inside 10 feet.
Now, the Last-Chance Qualifier represents Bryan's final opportunity to earn a place in the championship.
He is currently suspended by the PGA Tour after appearing in a LIV Golf-affiliated YouTube video.
The field also features 2025 Rocket Classic champion Aldrich Potgieter, Germany's Matti Schmid, Spain's Adri Arnaus and Angel Hidalgo, as well as three amateurs hoping to secure a dream debut in golf's oldest major.
