The Open Round 2 Leaderboard: Scottie Scheffler races to the front at Royal Portrush

Scheffler -10 (F)

Scheffler comes up just shy of another birdie on 18 and he taps in for an impressive 7-under 64.

That marks his lowest ever score at a major championship. 

The World No.1 will take a one-shot lead into the weekend on 10-under par.

Brilliant stuff from Scheffler and quite frankly it looks ominous for the rest of the field. 

The bookies think so, with Scottie's odds down to 1/2.

Schauffele -2 (F)

It's a bogey for defending champ Schauffele, who cards a 69.

He's eight back heading into the weekend. 

Schauffele -3 (17)

Schauffele is moving along nicely at 3-under par. 

He's just popped in another birdie on the short par-4 17th. 

Schauffele is six shots back. 

X-Man said it was a sad moment to hand back the Claret Jug at the start of the week.

But he might be getting back sooner than anticipated. 

Lowry -2 (15)

Lowry draws cheers from the home fans as he buries a 10 footer for birdie on the 15th. 

He's still some way off the pace but Lowry moves to 2-under.

Seven back. 

Fitzpatrick -9 (17)

Fitzpatrick misses the shortest putt of his week from about two feet at the par-4 17th. 

In fact it's probably one of the shortest missed putts of his career. 

It seemed like a tap-in birdie after a briliant pitch from short of the green, but he missed.

A par leaves him one shot ahead down the par-4 18th. 

Scheffler -8 (13)

Scheffler drills an eight footer for birdie on the par-3 13th.

He moves into a tie for second on 8-under and one back of Fitzpatrick. 

Scheffler -7 (12)

It's a disappointing par for Scheffler at the par-5 12th.

He once again missed the fairway but still managed to nudge his ball just short of the green in two.

Scheffler chipped past the hole to 10 feet but then missed his birdie putt narrowly on the right edge.

A par leaves him two shots behind Fitzpatrick, who has just made par on 15. 

Schauffele -2 (13)

Three birdies in a row for defending champion Schauffele, who keeps himself in the mix at 2-under par.

Gotterup -5 (F)

It's a brilliant 65 for last week's Scottish Open champion Gotterup, who vaults up to 5-under par and into the top five. 

Back to back wins and a first major title for the American? 

Every chance. 

D. Johnson Par (F)

DJ birdies three of the last four holes to make the cut.

He hits the pin on 18 and then knocks his ball home for birdie to card a round of 69.

It's not the vintage Johnson of old but he's still showing signs of class. 

Westwood -3 (F)

Westwood is turning the clock back.

He converts a brilliant 20 footer for par on 18 for a round of 70.

Westy is 3-under par for the tournament and just outside the top 10 heading into the weekend. 

Is a first career major still within reach for the 52-year-old Englishman? 

Possibly. 

Scheffler -7 (11)

An errant drive into the deep rough, along with the heavens opening, saw Scheffler forced to lay up in the fairway.

He failed to get up and down, missing his par attempt from 15 feet at the back of the green. 

It's a first bogey of the round for the World No.1, who falls back to 7-under and three behind Fitzpatrick.

Par 5 12th up next though. 

Gotterup -5, Westwood -3 (17)

Last week's Scottish Open winner Gotterup moves into contention again.

He's just popped in a birdie on the short par-4 17th to move into a tie for fifth on 5-under.

Five back but in the hunt. 

LIV Golf's Westwood follows him in for birdie to move to 3-under par. 

Scheffler -8 (10)

Scheffler is putting well.

He's just holed an eight footer on the par-4 10th to move into a tie for second on 8-under par.

The World No.1 moves to 8-under par and just two back, with plenty of birdie chances left. 

Rahm -2 (8)

Rahm finds sand off the tee and is forced to lay up in the fairway.

It leads to his first bogey of the day and the Spaniard falls back to 2-under.

Six back. 

Fitzpatrick -7 (10)

Fitzpatrick drains a 15 footer for birdie on 10 to move into a tie for third with Scheffler on 7-under.

One back.
