The Open Round 3 Leaderboard: Scottie Scheffler puts one hand on Claret Jug at Royal Portrush

The Open Third Round Leaderboard: World No.1 Scottie Scheffler races into a commanding four-shot lead at golf's final major of the season in Northern Ireland.

Scottie Scheffler put one hand on the Claret Jug on day three at the 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

Scheffler, 29, held a narrow one-shot lead starting the third round and he then strengthened it to four shots courtesy of a flawless third-round 67.

The World No.1 is going in search of his first Claret Jug.

Should he win The Open on Sunday then he will be just one leg away from completing the career grand slam.

Scheffler has two Masters titles and a PGA victory to his name.

China's Haotong Li has emerged as Scheffler's biggest threat on 10-under par.

Matt Fitzpatrick, who was playing alongside Scheffler, is a further shot back on 9-under par.

Home favourite Rory McIlroy holed a couple of bombs during a brilliant round of 66.

McIlroy told Sky Sports Golf after the round that it was "one of the coolest moments I've ever had on a golf course."

The Northern Irishman has hauled himself up to 8-under par, which is six shots off the pace heading into Sunday.

"Scottie Scheffler is inevitable, even when he doesn't have his best, he has become a complete player, so good around the greens and has improved so much with the putter," said McIlroy.

"It's going to be tough to catch him if he keeps playing the way he does. But if I can get off to a similar start to what I did today, get the crowd going and hopefully he feels that a couple of groups behind me then you never know, but I need to play another good round of golf and see what happens."

Other players in the hunt for The Open include last week's Scottish Open champion Chris Gotterup, Harris English, Tyrrell Hatton and defending champion Xander Schauffele, who matched McIlroy's round of 66.

Here's how we stand heading into Sunday:

Will Dustin Johnson make a move today?

Johnson -1 (3*)

Dustin Johnson made his first major championship cut of 2025 here.

The American starts moving day with a bang, rolling in a birdie putt at the 1st to get in the red numbers.

A par at the second follows.

Shane Lowry starts slowly

Lowry +1 (3*)

Shane Lowry was hoping to make a fast start on moving day given what happened last night.

The Irishman was assessed a two-shot penalty after the R&A judged he caused his golf ball to move on a practice swing whilst on the 12th hole.

Lowry made a par at the first but he's just made his first bogey of the day on the 2nd.

12:07
DeChambeau moves up the leaderboard

DeChambeau -2 (8*)

The eagle putt doesn't drop for DeChambeau, but it's the easiest of birdies for the American.

Another fairway is found at the par-4 8th but his approach is further away than he'd like.

Looks like he'll have a 30-foot birdie putt coming back down the hill.

Phil Mickelson gets underway

Mickelson E (1*)

Lefty made history by making the cut this week.

The six-time major champion leapfrogged Gary Player with 103 made cuts in the major championship.

His first tee shot, for the second day in a row, was dodgy and Mickelson is in the thick rough miles back.

Mickelson nudges his golf ball back into position and receives a warm reception after zipping a wedge close, using the slop nicely to set up an outside look at saving par.

DeChambeau eagle chance

DeChambeau -1 (7*)

Bryson is on the green in two shots at the par-5 7th and has an outside look at the big bird.

Some start for Bryson

DeChambeau Par (4)

An eventful start for DeChambeau.

After going out-of-bounds with his tee shot on the 1st, he saved bogey and has since birdied 2 and 3.

He's just made par on 4.

DeChambeau is 10 back.
