It's not even close.
Morikawa -2, Spaun +2, N. Hojgaard +3 (8)
Former Open champion Collin Morikawa started with a bogey but has since made his way nicely up the leaderboard with three birdies in seven holes.
Lowry -1, Koepka E, Rai E (5)
Brooks Koepka is ticking along nicely so far.
He dropped a shot at the fourth but has already gotten it back at the fifth.
Koepka set up the birdie with a tremendous shot from the fairway bunker that settled three feet from the hole.
McIlroy +1, Schauffele E, M Fitzpatrick E (4)
A poorly played hole sees McIlroy drop his first stroke of the day at the par-three fourth.
The problems began with his tee shot, which went way right.
His chip ended up 15 feet from the foot and he failed to make it.
McIlroy E, Schauffele E, M Fitzpatrick E (3)
Rory McIlroy is in a tricky position just off the green over at the third. He can chip or putt but opts to play the percentages and grabs his flatstick.
It's a well-judged effort and he taps in for a par.
Still no birdies for Schauffele or Fitzpatrick yet.
Scottie Scheffler has been speaking to reporters after his opening round.
Scheffler raced out of the blocks with a string of birdies but had to settle for a two-under 68 in the end.
"The start was great," he said.
"Outside of that, I felt I didn't take advantage of some of my good play.
"Wish I could have holed a few more putts, but overall it was a solid day. I hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens.
"Overall, it was definitely a solid day. There is some risks on the golf course. There is some challenges there.
"You can get yourself in some troublesome spots pretty quickly.
"I did a good job getting them on the fairway and getting them on the green."
McIlroy E, Schauffele E, M Fitzpatrick E (3*)
Spieth +2, Fleetwood -1, Rahm -1 (F)
Tommy Fleetwood has a huge smile on his face as he strides up the 18th to huge applause.
He rolls in a six-footer at the last to sign for a 69.
It's a score he will be very happy with considering the occasion.
Jon Rahm will have mixed feelings about his opening round.
Jordan Spieth, the 2017 Open champion, will have his work cut out tomorrow.
Scheffler -2 (68), Hatton -1 (69), DeChambeau -3 (67)
A sloppy finish for Bryson DeChambeau, who watched his golf ball trickle off the back of the green at 18 with his approach.
He can't decide whether to chip or putt.
In the end, he elects to chip and leaves himself seven feet or so to post a 66.
He misses the cup right and will have to settle for a 67.
A very good start, though.
Scheffler watches his birdie attempt stop in the jaws.
Tyrrell Hatton also endures a frustrating finish with a bogey.
That'll make lunch taste bitter.
Young E, Clark +1, Aberg E (1)
Wyndham Clark hit a wild tee shot left at the first and pays the price immediately.
Scheffler -2, Hatton -2, DeChambeau -4 (18*)
Scottie Scheffler heads to the 18th not in the best of moods.
He failed to sav par at the 17th but has laced his tee shot down the middle at the last.
Lowry E, Rai E, Koepka E (1)
Shane Lowry settles any nerves with a 12-foot putt for par at the first.
His playing partners also head to the next on level par.
Rory McIlroy is making his way to the first tee box.
He's playing the opening round alongside Xander Schauffele and Matthew Fitzpatrick.
McIlroy, 37, is attempting to win his first Claret Jug since he triumphed at Royal Liverpool in 2014.
Scheffler -3 (17*)
Scottie Scheffler finds the fairway over at the par-five 17th but flares his approach wide right into the heavy stuff.
Playing his third with the ball above his feet, he nearly hits his ankle and it shoots left.
The reigning Open champion plays a nice recovery shot and has a good chance to save par.
Let's go back to the first tee box.
Shane Lowry, Aaron Rai and Brooks Koepka are ready to go.
Lowry ends up in the right rough but that's fine.
Rai is safely down the middle and Koepka also strays right.
14:42 Collin Morikawa, JJ Spaun, Nicolai Hojgaard
14:53 Shane Lowry, Aaron Rai, Brooks Koepka
15:04 Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, Ludvig Aberg
15:15 Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, Matt Fitzpatrick
Smalley -3 (67)
Alex Smalley had the lead at five-under not so long ago.
He now trails by two after needing to hit three off the tee at the 18th.
Spieth +2, Fleetwood +1, Rahm -1 (14)
The 14th is considered one of the easier holes at Royal Birkdale.
Rahm makes a right mess of it, though, by finding the rough with his tee shot and failing to get up and down for par.
Fleetwood finds the same spot with his tee shot but walks off with a par.
A birdie putt finally drops for Jordan Spieth.
Scheffler -3, Hatton -2, DeChambeau -2 (15)
Just three holes to play for this marquee group.
Scheffler sees another birdie chance go begging from 20 feet.
DeChambeau and Hatton do well to get up and down for par.
Henley E, Rose +5, Hovland E (15*)
Justin Rose is having a complete mare here.
He keeps missing greens.
The European Ryder Cup star has left himself with more work to do over at the 15th.
He has to hole a 15-foot putt to avoid slipping to six-over.
Smalley -5 (16)
Over the past 45 minutes, Alex Smalley has edged into the lead.
Back-to-back birdies at the 14th and 15th have given the American a one-shot lead.
He does well to two-putt from 45 feet at the 16th to keep his lead.
Spieth +2, Fleetwood E, Rahm -1 (10)
Tommy Fleetwood comes up short with his approach at the 10th and pays the price.
He elects to putt from the fringe but leaves himself seven feet for par and misses.
Rahm does well to save his par after ending up on the back of the green.
Scheffler -3, Hatton -2, DeChambeau -3 (10)
There was plenty of chatter over how Bryson DeChambeau was going to perform this week.
So far, he's answering his critics.
And then some.
A mammoth drive at the 10th and beautiful wedge leaves DeChambeau with three feet for birdie.
It drops.
Im -4 (66), Brown -4 (66)
Sunjae Im and Daniel Brown have both signed for rounds of four-under 66.
"I felt good," Brown said after his round.
"The last two-three months, I have been hitting the ball really well, but not been holing anything.
"Thankfully, I started holing some putts on the last nine to 10 holes."
Henley E, Rose +4, Hovland E (12)
Justin Rose makes a 10-foot birdie putt at the 12th to claw one back.
