BMW Championship: Otherworldly Scottie Scheffler clinches fifth PGA Tour title of 2025

BMW Championship leaderboard: Scottie Scheffler claimed his fifth PGA Tour victory of 2025 by seeing off a spirited challenge from Robert MacIntyre at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland.

Scottie Scheffler claimed his fifth win of the season at the BMW Championship.

Scheffler, 29, started the final round of the second leg of the PGA Tour's playoffs in Maryland trailing Robert MacIntyre by four strokes.

The Scot got off to the worst possible start, dropping three shots in his first nine holes to surrender the lead to Scheffler.

The American World No.1 stretched his lead to two strokes as the pair departed the 11th green, but dropped shots at the 12th and 14th to re-open the door for the European Ryder Cup hopeful.

Scheffler led by one stroke heading to the 17th and both players missed the green with their tee shots.

The four-time major champion then chipped in from 55 feet, sparking wild scenes, to leave MacIntyre completely stunned.

He later told reporters the final round was 'abysmal'.

Scheffler will now head to the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake as the overwhelming favourite to become the first player to win back-to-back FedEx Cup titles.

The BMW Championship represents Scheffler's fifth individual win of 2025.

Scheffler won the PGA Championship in May and The Open at Royal Portrush in July.

He also won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and the Memorial.

How will Robert MacIntyre handle the back 9?

MacIntyre -13, Scheffler -14 (10*)

Both players walk off the 9th green with pars.

MacIntyre appears to have settled down a bit now.

Holes are running out, though, and Scheffler has the lead.

20:37
Rickie Fowler, anyone?

R. Fowler -10 (11)

Superb stuff from Rickie Fowler today, who is playing his way into the Tour Championship

Another birdie drops for the American over at the 10th. He follows with a par at the 11th.

He's only four back...

20:35
Average from MacIntyre

MacIntyre -13, Scheffler -14 (9*)

Robert MacIntyre hits an 8-iron towards the 9th green.

It's an okay shot. Not a great look at birdie, but should escape without a blemish.

Scottie Scheffler chips a 9-iron - and that's very poor by his standards. Looks about 25 feet...

20:31
Some shot by Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy is having a quiet week by his standards.

He's just provided a bit of magic over at the 11th, though...

20:30
Scheffler finds another fairway

MacIntyre -13, Scheffler -14 (9*)

Now then, how will Scheffler respond to that miss?

He opts for driver at the 9th and finds the fairway. Again.

Bob also takes the chief. He still can't find the fairway.

His golf ball appears destined for the fairway bunker but is gobbled up by the rough.

It looks like it is sitting up, though.

20:27
Huge par save from Bob

MacIntyre -13, Scheffler -14 (8)

Robert MacIntyre plays a delightful flop shot that lands on the edge of the green and trickles down towards the hole.

He makes no mistake from six feet. And that is a huge par save.

Now Scheffler from five feet to lead by two.

He misses!

20:21
"Right at it, shocking"

MacIntyre -13, Scheffler -14 (8*)

MacIntyre is away first and he misses the green right. More thick rough.

The only positive is that he has plenty of green to work with but his poor round of golf continues.

Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler takes dead aim from 171 yards.

"It's right at it, shocking," opines Rich Beem on Sky Sports.

Looks like he'll have five feet for birdie...

Are nerves getting to Bob?

Relentless Scheffler

MacIntyre -13, Scheffler -14 (8*)

Scheffler opts for driver off the tee at the 8th and finds the short stuff.

MacIntyre's struggles continue and he finds the bunker.

He's only managed to hit one fairway today...

20:12
Scottie Scheffler takes the solo lead

MacIntyre -13, Scheffler -14 (7)

MacIntyre is fortunate not to find another bunker with his approach at the 7th.

His golf ball settles in the first cut of rough next to the green.

He plays a tidy putt to gimme range and will take a four.

Scheffler, meanwhile, lands 10 feet from the pin after hitting another stunning iron shot.

He takes 30 seconds to study the putt, which breaks from the right.

Birdie.

We have a new leader.

20:08
Groans from the 9th green

Fleetwood -9 (9)

Audible groans coming from the 9th green.

Tommy Fleetwood misses a golden opportunity to get to 10-under.

20:06
Just stop it, Tommy

Fleetwood -9 (9*)

Wow.

Tommy Fleetwood fires a dart onto the 9th green.

He could get to within three of the lead!

20:05
Here's a look at Scheffler's birdie putt at the 5th...
20:02
Don't rule out Sam Burns

Burns -11 (7)

Wow. The plot is thickening here.

Sam Burns hits a dart at the 7th, taps in for birdie, and is now within two of the lead.

20:01
MacIntyre not backing off

MacIntyre -13, Scheffler -13 (7*)

Robert MacIntyre elects to take driver off the tee at the short par-4 7th.

He misses another fairway. His golf ball darts into the rough and is not visible.

Scheffler finds the short stuff.

19:59
Quality from Scheffler...

MacIntyre -13, Scheffler -13 (6)

MacIntyre's long birdie putt stops short in the jaws. It's the easiest of pars.

Scheffler shows his class by chipping to three feet. It'll be a par for the American also.

Tommy Fleetwood not out of this?

T. Fleetwood -9 (8)

A curling birdie putt drops at the 8th for Fleetwood.

Is he too far back? He's got plenty of holes to pile on the pressure...

19:54
MacIntyre responds

MacIntyre -13, Scheffler -13 (6*)

The Scot and the American make their way to the long par-3 6th.

Scheffler goes first and flies the green. He's in the deep rough.

MacIntyre finds the heart of the green.

Could be another swing here...

19:50
Bubble watch

Rickie Fowler came into this week 48th in the FedEx Cup.

He's currently assured of a spot in the Tour Championship, but it is changing by the minute.

Michael Kim is the bubble boy as things stand.

19:48
Scheffler ties the lead

MacIntyre -13, Scheffler -13 (5)

Robert MacIntyre splashes out of the sand, but his golf ball rolls past the cup approximately 11 feet.

What can Scheffler manage? BIRDIE. Dead centre.

MacIntyre's par attempt darts left at the last second.

We are tied at the top.

19:43
Criminal from MacIntyre

MacIntyre -14, Scheffler -12 (5*)

Scottie Scheffler is in deep conversation with his stand-in caddie Mike Cromie.

He elects to hit a gap wedge and it's another decent approach. About 12 feet for birdie down the hill.

MacIntyre, though, finds the bunker from 87 yards and now has work to do to save his par.

19:39
Perfect tee shots

MacIntyre -14, Scheffler -12 (5*)

Scottie Scheffler and Robert MacIntyre both find the fairway with their tee shots at the short par-4 5th.

19:35
Scheffler misses

MacIntyre -14, Scheffler -12 (4)

Scottie Scheffler barely breaths on his birdie putt at the 4th. It's a whisker too high.

He'll stay two behind.

MacIntyre makes his five.

19:33
Another par for Aberg

L. Aberg -10 (5)

The Swede has had decent looks at birdie on every hole so far, but none have dropped.

He taps in for a par at the 5th and will remain four behind.
