BMW Championship: Otherworldly Scottie Scheffler clinches fifth PGA Tour title of 2025

BMW Championship leaderboard: Scottie Scheffler claimed his fifth PGA Tour victory of 2025 by seeing off a spirited challenge from Robert MacIntyre at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland.

Scottie Scheffler claimed his fifth win of the season at the BMW Championship.

Scheffler, 29, started the final round of the second leg of the PGA Tour's playoffs in Maryland trailing Robert MacIntyre by four strokes.

The Scot got off to the worst possible start, dropping three shots in his first nine holes to surrender the lead to Scheffler.

The American World No.1 stretched his lead to two strokes as the pair departed the 11th green, but dropped shots at the 12th and 14th to re-open the door for the European Ryder Cup hopeful.

Scheffler led by one stroke heading to the 17th and both players missed the green with their tee shots.

The four-time major champion then chipped in from 55 feet, sparking wild scenes, to leave MacIntyre completely stunned.

He later told reporters the final round was 'abysmal'.

Scheffler will now head to the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake as the overwhelming favourite to become the first player to win back-to-back FedEx Cup titles.

The BMW Championship represents Scheffler's fifth individual win of 2025.

Scheffler won the PGA Championship in May and The Open at Royal Portrush in July.

He also won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and the Memorial.

Outside chance for MacIntyre

MacIntyre -14, Scheffler -12 (4*)

Pretty average wedge from the Scot. He'll have about 20 feet for his birdie.

What can Scheffler manage from the rough?

It's a conservative effort and it looks like we'll have to get the measuring tape out to decide who is away.

MacIntyre in the sand

MacIntyre -14, Scheffler -12 (4*)

Right, the par-5 4th is next.

MacIntyre's tee shot finds the fairway bunker. He's on an upslope, and the lie is perfect.

He opts to lay-up, though.

Scheffler finds the second cut of rough.

With the wind behind, the American has a crack at the green.

He misses the dancefloor right, but has plenty of green to work with...

Unforced error from the World No.1

MacIntyre -14, Scheffler -12 (3)

Wow. What an error from Scottie Scheffler.

The World No.1 has 35 feet for birdie. It's a decent effort, but trundles past the cup by about four feet.

You would expect Scheffler to make no mistake, but he lips out for his par!

MacIntyre makes a three, after watching his short birdie putt miss on the high side.

The lead is two.

Can anyone else win this?

Certainly.

Ludvig Aberg is only three strokes back. Sam Burns will also believe he can rattle in a few birdies to pile the pressure on Bob and Scottie.

Response from MacIntyre

MacIntyre -14, Scheffler -13 (3*)

Right then, the leaders are at the par-3 3rd.

Scheffler finds the heart of the green with another towering iron shot.

Bob is closer, though, and will have about seven feet to get one back.

MacIntyre -14, Scheffler -13 (2)

Scottie Scheffler rolls his lengthy birdie putt to gimme range and taps in for his four.

MacIntyre hits a nice putt, but it rolls one foot past. He tidies up for another bogey.

What must he be thinking right now?

Dreadful start for MacIntyre

MacIntyre -15, Scheffler -13 (1)

Robert MacIntyre's start goes from bad to worse. He finds an okay lie, but his approach flies the green and now he's short-sided.

He hacks his third onto the green, but leaves himself 25 feet to save his par.

Another fairway found for Scottie

R. MacIntyre -15, S. Scheffler -13 (2*)

Scottie Scheffler is just relentless, isn't he? Another fairway found at the 2nd.

Bob stares down his tee shot. It trundles into the rough again.

Sloppy start.

Xander Schauffele will miss the Tour Championship for the first time in his career

As we mentioned, the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings will advance to next week's Tour Championship at East Lake.

Xander Schauffele came into the BMW Championship 43rd in the points race, but has been unable to make the move he needed.

Schauffele has struggled to find his best form since sustaining a rib injury that saw him sit out eight weeks of the campaign earlier in the season.

Still, at least he has secured his spot in the US Ryder Cup team.

Scottie Scheffler makes the first move

R. MacIntyre -15, S. Scheffler -13 (1)

Wow. The lead is trimmed to two strokes after the opening hole.

Scottie Scheffler makes absolutely no mistake from seven feet.

MacIntyre thinks his par attempt is going to break to the left, but his golf ball holds its line.

Classy touch by Bob

R. MacIntyre -16, S. Scheffler -12 (1*)

Robert MacIntyre plays a delightful bump-and-run just off the front edge of the green. He'll have an outside chance to save his par.

MacIntyre gets lucky with his lie

R. MacIntyre -16, S. Scheffler -12 (1*)

Robert MacIntyre gets somewhat fortunate his golf ball isn't fully buried in the rough. He takes dead aim with a wedge, but comes up short of the green. Work to do to make par.

How will Scheffler respond? Right at it. About five or so feet for birdie.

Could be a two-shot swing right out of the gate..

Par for Fleetwood

Fleetwood -8 (3)

Fleetwood's birdie attempt drifts by the left edge. He'll remain eight behind MacIntyre.

FORE RIGHT!

R. MacIntyre -16, S. Scheffler -12 (1*)

Big pull from the Scot at the 1st, who finds the thick stuff with his opening drive.

Scheffler? An enormous drive finds the middle of the fairway...

Bob takes a swig of water.

Scheffler and MacIntyre getting ready to tee off

Scottie Scheffler and Robert MacIntyre are making their way to the 1st tee now.

Scheffler, as you'd expect, looks remarkably relaxed.

Bob looks composed, too.

Tommy Fleetwood starts strong

T. Fleetwood -8 (2)

Tommy Fleetwood grabs a birdie at the par-4 2nd to move into a share of fourth with European Ryder Cup hopeful Harry Hall and Sam Burns.

Fleetwood follows his birdie with a sublime tee shot at the par-3 3rd.

He'll have another good look.

Welcome, one and all...

Welcome to our live commentary of the final round of the 2025 BMW Championship.

Scotland's Robert MacIntyre is going search of the biggest victory of his career this evening.

The Oban man captured his maiden PGA Tour title last June at the RBC Canadian Open, sparking emotional scenes, but is yet to get over the line over some truly elite competition.

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler will begin the final round four strokes behind the 29-year-old.

How will MacIntyre handle the moment? Judging by his behaviour so far, he's up to the task.

The leaders will tee off at 18.40pm BST.
