What looked certain to be a maiden PGA Tour victory for Eric Cole turned into a dramatic triumph for Russell Henley at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Trailing late on Sunday at Colonial Country Club, Henley produced one of the finishes of the season, rolling in birdie putts on each of his final three holes to force a playoff at 12-under par.
The American drained birdies from around 15 feet on the 16th, 17th and 18th holes before returning to the par-4 18th for sudden death, where he converted a five-foot birdie putt to seal his sixth PGA Tour title.
The victory earned Henley a winner's cheque worth $1.782 million, while Cole's runner-up finish was worth $1.0791 million.
The win also moved Henley back inside the world's top 10.
