Lucas Glover will likely need to overcome a host of challengers at the John Deere Classic if he is to step into the winner's circle on the PGA Tour for the first time since the summer of 2023.

The 46-year-old American, who is best known for winning the 2009 U.S. Open, went round TPC Deere Run on Saturday in two-under 69.

He shares the lead with his compatriot, Lee Hodges, on 16-under with 18 holes remaining.

A host of players are in contention, including former U.S. Ryder Cup captain, Zach Johnson, who is three back.

Glover is searching for his first win since the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship.

He has tumbled down the Official World Golf Ranking since and is currently outside the top 100.

Victory would represent Glover's seventh PGA Tour title whilst Hodges is aiming to pick up his first win since the 2023 3M Open.

Johnson told reporters he feels like he is still playing good enough to win.

Whilst the 50-year-old has won on the over-50s circuit, he has not an official PGA Tour event since the 2015 Open Championship at St Andrews.

"My focus right now is hydration, recovery, food, and sleep, packing," he said. "Oh, damn it, I got to pack.

"Other than that - it's normal. Saturday nights, that's the norm."

The cut line fell at three-under.

Notables to miss the cut included the highly-rated Jackson Koivun, 21, who made his first start since turning professional.
