Tiger Woods’ Hero World Challenge field announced – but is he playing at Albany?

Scottie Scheffler and defending champion Hideki Matsuyama headline the December event, with three places still to be filled.

The line-up for the 2026 Hero World Challenge has been revealed, with some of golf's biggest names heading to the Bahamas – but tournament host Tiger Woods is not among the confirmed players.

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, reigning champion Hideki Matsuyama and Players Championship winner Cameron Young lead the entries for the December 3-6 tournament at Albany.

Matt Fitzpatrick also features following a standout season that has brought him three PGA Tour victories, and four in total around the world following his recent Open de France win on the DP World Tour.

Seven of the world's top 10 players are currently included in the 20-man field, although three tournament exemptions have yet to be announced.

Tiger Woods return remains uncertain

Woods' participation is still an open question, with no confirmation that the 50-year-old intends to compete at his own event.

The 15-time major champion has previously used the 72-hole, no-cut tournament as a platform for competitive comebacks following injury.

However, he has not played an official PGA Tour event since The Open at Royal Troon in July 2024, where he missed the cut.

A potential return in 2026 appeared possible when Woods discussed the prospect of playing at the Masters.

Those hopes were subsequently clouded by his arrest on March 27 following a vehicle rollover crash on Jupiter Island, Florida.

Authorities reported finding hydrocodone pills and observing signs of impairment.

Woods later spent time at a rehabilitation facility in Switzerland and has largely stayed away from the public spotlight.

The former World No.1 lost his driving license for five years after reaching a plea deal

There has been no subsequent confirmation of when he might return to competitive golf.

Although three places remain available, there is no indication that Woods will take one of them.

Scheffler and Matsuyama target milestone

The end-of-season Hero World Challenge offers a compelling subplot, with Scheffler and Matsuyama both chasing a third victory at Albany.

Scheffler claimed back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024, while Matsuyama won in 2016 before securing his second trophy last year.

The Japanese star defeated Alex Noren in a playoff in 2025 after producing a decisive approach shot at the first extra hole.

Either player would become the first three-time winner at Albany with another victory this December.

The field also includes 11 players from the 2026 Presidents Cup teams and three debutants in Si Woo Kim, Ryan Gerard and Jacob Bridgeman.

Collectively, the confirmed entrants boast 106 Tour victories and 11 major wins, with players representing six countries.

The tournament runs from December 3-6, with Golf Channel broadcasting all four rounds and NBC covering the third and final rounds.

UK fans will be able to tune in via Sky Sports Golf.

For now, the competitive line-up is taking shape, but the biggest story may still be whether Woods makes his own tournament.
