PGA Tour star Collin Morikawa with outrageous (?!) Ryder Cup/TGL claim

PGA Tour star Collin Morikawa was ridiculed after he claimed being informed which TGL side he will join may have topped getting the nod as a Ryder Cup captain's pick.

Morikawa was announced on 1 November as a member of Los Angeles Golf Club.

TGL is Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods' upstart golf league that will debut primetime on Monday nights next January.

More details have been emerging about what to expect in recent weeks. We now know what the format will be.

The news that Morikawa has joined the LA-based team comes just 24 hours after Justin Thomas was announced as a member of Atlanta Brave.

Morikawa then said something that, in all likelihood, he probably shouldn't have.

"I just got chills through my body," he said.  "I don't think I've ever answered a call like this [from team co-owner Alex Ohanian].

"I mean, I got my Ryder Cup call this year, but this is … I think this tops it almost."

Okay Collin. This might go some way in explaining the state of the U.S. side that was defeated by five points last September in Italy.

Morikawa went 1-3-0 at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club.

Of course, the short video of Morikawa's announcement caught the attention of many golf fans.

"A preposterous quote," one X user said. Another added: "If this is a bit, it's an all timer."

Morikawa's statement was compared to Talor Gooch's comment about the Ryder Cup after the 4 Aces tasted victory in a LIV Golf event last year.

Gooch was lambasted after he compared the atmosphere in a LIV event to a Ryder Cup, despite never taking part in the biennial dust-up.

"I can't imagine there's a hell of a lot of difference," Gooch memorably said as Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed tried to stifle laughs behind him.

"Those who criticized Gooch, your turn for Morikawa," one golf fan wrote on X.
