TGL is preparing for its biggest season yet, with a host of new PGA Tour players set to join the indoor golf league ahead of its 2027 campaign.

According to Front Office Sports' David Rumsey, the league will feature 35 players across seven teams, marking an increase from the 24 players and alternates involved last season.

Each team will have five players on its roster, although the match format will remain unchanged, with three players representing each team on match night.

The expanded line-ups follow the introduction of Motor City Golf Club, TGL's first expansion franchise, which will feature five-time major champion Brooks Koepka for the first time.

Official team rosters are due to be announced on Tuesday 20 October, as the league continues to build towards its third season.

TGL Season 3: What we know so far

Season 3 is scheduled to begin on Sunday 27 December 2026, with matches taking place at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

ESPN will remain the league's US broadcast partner, with the upcoming campaign expected to bring further attention to TGL's technology-driven approach to professional golf.

Co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy through TMRW Sports, alongside former NBC Sports and Golf Channel executive Mike McCarley, TGL combines simulator golf with a live team competition format.

The arrival of Motor City Golf Club takes the league to seven teams, joining Atlanta Drive GC, Boston Common Golf, Jupiter Links Golf Club, Los Angeles Golf Club, New York Golf Club and The Bay Golf Club.

Motor City has already made a significant move by selecting Koepka as the cornerstone of its inaugural roster. The Detroit-based franchise subsequently added amateur star Jackson Koivun, giving the expansion team a blend of major championship experience and emerging talent.

How does the TGL roster draft work?

The roster formation process has been designed to give teams greater depth while maintaining the league's three-player match format.

Returning franchises were allowed to retain up to four players from their previous rosters, with eligible alternates also able to be retained. Teams then filled their remaining places through a round-by-round selection process.

Motor City received first selection as the expansion franchise, while the order for the returning teams was determined by their finishing positions in the 2026 SoFi Cup standings.

Retained players counted towards each team's selections, meaning the number of players kept from the previous season influenced when franchises could select again.

The process is intended to give teams more flexibility when choosing their three-player line-ups throughout the campaign.

Shane Lowry makes TGL history with first-ever trade

The build-up to the new season has already produced a landmark moment, with Boston Common Golf confirming the first trade in TGL history on Monday.

The team has acquired Shane Lowry from The Bay Golf Club, bringing the 2019 Open champion together with close friend and Ryder Cup team-mate McIlroy.

In exchange, The Bay received Boston's fourth selection in the upcoming roster formation process, an additional selection during one of the next three off-seasons and commercial considerations.

Lowry's arrival gives Boston another major champion and an experienced team competitor as the franchise looks to build on its strong regular-season performance in 2026.

Boston finished top of the regular-season standings before being eliminated in the semi-finals by Jupiter Links Golf Club.

Los Angeles GC were crowned 2026 champions.

TGL's latest move highlights how the expanded rosters and new selection process could encourage further trades and strategic decisions in future seasons.

With seven teams, 35 players and a new franchise entering the competition, TGL Season 3 is shaping up to be the league's most expansive campaign yet.

All eyes will now turn to Tuesday's roster announcements to discover which PGA Tour stars will feature when the action returns on December 27.

Elsewhere, the inaugural inaugural season of the Women's Team Golf League (WTGL) starts on Sunday 8 November.

But World No.1 Nelly Korda is not taking part.

Korda considered it something of a missed opportunity for TGL to not include LPGA players with PGA Tour golfers.

McIlroy was questioned about that during his latest appearance on the DP World Tour.
