Sky Sports commentator Dame Laura Davies was left red-faced after making an almighty gaffe when discussing the Ryder Cup potential of PGA Tour star Tom Kim.

Sky Sports commentator Laura Davies says she's not going to be allowed to forget her Tom Kim Ryder Cup gaffe 'for a very long time'. 

The moment arrived during the second round of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. 

Davies had just watched young PGA Tour star Kim play a beautiful iron approach at the flagship event on the DP World Tour. 

Impressed with the shot and his play in general since turning pro, Davies immediately questioned why Kim hadn't been considered for the U.S. Ryder Cup side. 

She was promptly informed by Sky Sports commentator Ewen Murray and former golfer-turned-analyst Rich Beem that despite his talent he would be ineligible for the team. 

That's owing to his South Korean nationality. The 21-year-old may sound American but he was born in Seoul in 2002. 

"That's so sad," Davies said. "I've been doing my homework on the Ryder Cup and everything," she added. 

"You're not going to allow me to forget that for a very long time," she told Murray and Beem. Both laughed heartily and agreed. 

Moments later presenter Nick Dougherty suggested they'll get 'months and months' of enjoyment out of the moment. "Perhaps years," he said. 

Beem turned the screw later in the coverage after seeing Kim in the deep rough a few holes later.

"That's probably why he's not in the Ryder Cup team, leaving it short like that."
