Justin Thomas became the third youngest player to reach 13 PGA Tour wins on Sunday after he climbed the leaderboard to win the WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational by three shots.
Only Jack Nicklaus (25) and Tiger Woods (23) reached 13 wins at a younger age than Thomas and the newly crowned World No.1 will be full of confidence as he tees off as the favourite to win the US PGA Championship this week.
Thomas had a stroke of luck at the 15th hole when his pulled tee shot managed to avoid the water, get through the trees and leave a pretty simple chip shot that set up an unlikely birdie.
Starting the final round four shots off the lead, Thomas was delighted with his fight as he calculated his way around TPC Southwind to get the job done.
"It was a hard-fought day, but it meant a lot I just felt like [because of] how we did it, being four behind to start the day," Thomas said. "I haven't exactly played well coming from behind in the past and I feel like I learned a lot from that.
"Especially at Colonial, I just didn't handle it well and I pressed way too hard and I definitely learned a lot from Workday and Columbus, (Ohio), just how I handled that lead and that situation the last couple holes. I did obviously a very poor job, but because of that I felt a lot more calm and stayed more in the moment today."
