PGA Tour star and reigning Masters champion Scottie Scheffler looks to have made a big equipment change ahead of the CJ Cup ahead of what looks to be hugely important week for the American.

Aside from playing pickleball with Jordan Spieth, it appears Scheffler has been doing a bit of tinkering with his time off.

He will peg it up in a very, very strong field at Congaree Golf Club with the prospect of Rory McIlroy dethroning him as the World No.1 if the Northern Irishman defends his title and Scheffler doesn't finish solo second or in a two-way tie for second.

Alternatively, McIlroy could also pip 25-year-old Scheffler to the top spot if the Ulsterman finishes solo second and he finishes worse than solo 34th.

As first reported by GolfWRX, Scheffler was pictured in South Carolina using a Scotty Cameron T-5.5 Proto mallet putter.

The publication also point out that Scheffler has custom engravings on the side.

It can only be described as a curious equipment change considering he won four times last season using his Scotty Cameron blade.

Although, he did four-putt the 72nd hole at Augusta National, but still...

Take a look:

Scheffler has been grouped with Sungjae Im and Cameron Young for the first two rounds of the CJ Cup, where 15 of the world's top 20 players in the Official World Golf Ranking will battle it out for the $1,890,000 top prize.

The American has been World No. 1 since March 28.
