Tiger Woods posted his worst weekend score at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational since 2010 with consecutive rounds of 3-over 73, on a weekend where Firestone waved goodbye to hosting the tournament since its inauguration in 1999.

It might not have been the Firestone swansong the eight-time WGC-Bridgestone Invitational winner was after, but Woods bowed out in style by making birdie at the 72nd hole to finish tied 31st on level-par.

Starting the final round 11 strokes off the pace heading into the final round, Woods admitted to going for everything, which ultimately resulted in a number of mistakes.

“I was just trying to be as aggressive as possible and fire at everything,” said Woods. “It was either going to be 62 or 72 or something in the mid-70s. I was just going to be aggressive and see what happens.”

Woods made qualifying for the last WGC on the South Course a goal this season, and he duly managed that following a handful of top-10 finishes on Tour this season.

“I'm going to miss this place," he said. "I'm going to miss playing here, I'm going to miss the people. I've had so many great memories and it's just sad that we're not coming back here anymore.”

Firestone has hosted the tournament ever since 1999, with just the 2002 edition being played elsewhere at Sahalee Country Club.

TPC Southwind in Memphis will host the 2019 staging of the tournament.

Woods slumped to 53rd out of 71 players in strokes gained: tee to green and he hit just five of 14 fairways on Sunday.

The 14-time major champion, who held the outright lead with eight holes to play at The Open three weeks ago, will now bid to win a fifth US PGA crown at Bellerive this week.
