Dustin Johnson still managed to make birdie despite hitting one of the biggest shanks he's likely ever hit during the second round of LIV Golf's event in Spain.

Johnson began the second round at the treacherously difficult Valderrama in a share for the lead with Jason Kokrak.

But he struggled to get anything going early on, particularly with his wedge game. Then things got a little bit stickier.

This moment arrived at the par-5 17th and Johnson, who recently celebrated his 39th birthday, was 2-over for his round.

Johnson found the fairway with his tee shot and only had a 7-iron in his hand for his approach. Cue relatable moment.

The American was clearly trying to play a high cut to the back right pin. That didn't happen, and his golf ball nearly went out of bounds.

Johnson finished the swing with one hand and immediately watched his golf ball head way, way right. And at speed. One of us! One of us!

From there, DJ played a short pitch. He was attempting to use the contours of the fringe to bring his golf ball back onto the green.

Again, what he was attempting to do didn't materialise, but it didn't matter as he holed his birdie putt from off the green. Then we saw Johnson give it large to the crowd.

Johnson eventually carded a level par 71 which included four birdies and four bogeys.

He said of his struggles:

"We had some wind today, but the course played the same. It's just a really good golf course. If you're not hitting it solid and where you want to hit it, it plays very difficult, which it did today for me.
"You've got to drive it in the fairway, which I just didn't do. Then the few times I was in the fairway, I missed the green are wedges or short irons, and you just can't do that.
"For today, the course played very difficult for myself, but luckily I chipped and putted very well and shot even par. It could have been a lot worse than that."
