Will LIV Golf's Sergio Garcia play on the DP World Tour EVER AGAIN?

LIV Golf's Sergio Garcia admitted something that is extremely sad and damning about the current hostility in the game: he may never play on the DP World Tour again.

After the second round of the Jeddah Invitational, Garcia was asked a question referring to his fine for withdrawing from the BMW PGA Championship and his future on the Tour he first won on in 1999.

"I don't know. As of now, it doesn't look like it," Garcia said.

"But we'll see. At the end of the day, I want to play where people want me, where people are excited to have me, and where I feel like I'm welcome and loved. Right now that's here, that's at LIV, and I'm very excited about that."

Garcia chose not to enter the Mallorca Golf Open next week, which would've seen him maintain his Tour status and it also would've made him eligible for the Ryder Cup in 2023.

But, much like his attitude towards the DP World Tour, he has also ended his Ryder Cup career to avoid playing in an event where he isn't wanted. In 2018, he became the competition's record points scorer and he formed a strong partnership with Jon Rahm at last year's matches too.

Rahm is one player who evidently dislikes the tension that has been caused by the emergence of the LIV Golf Tour. He publicly congratulated his fellow Spaniard Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra for winning the Bangkok Invitational and he also believes LIV players should be allowed at the Ryder Cup.

Sky Sports commentator Ewen Murray offered sympathy to Garcia with a heartfelt tweet on Saturday which looked back on the 42-year-old's glittering career.

"@TheSergioGarcia Sergio, you received an invite to the @DPWorldTour in Madrid at 14 yrs of age. We rejoiced 5yrs later with your 1st win in Ireland, your Masters victory and record pts in the Ryder Cup. You were indeed loved by many good golfers, more importantly, great people."

Garcia hasn't completed four rounds on the Tour, formerly known as the European Tour, since the BMW International Open in June. At this event, he reportedly went on an abusive rant in front of players, criticising its future and the players for remaining on it.

With this in mind and his withdrawal from the event at Wentworth in September, it is a shame that Garcia has bowed out to start a new path on the LIV Golf Tour in this way, having created so many memories that are treasured by European golf fans.
