Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson were amongst many big names to miss the cut at The Masters, despite being fancied to challenge for the green jacket.

McIlroy only needs a victory at The Masters to complete his major grand slam but he followed up his opening round of 76 with a 2-over-par round of 74 on Friday to finish on 6-over-par for the tournament.

The Northern Irishman carded six bogeys in his first round and played badly again yesterday. A double-bogey at the par-4 10th hole all but ended his hopes of playing at the weekend.

World. No 1 Dustin Johnson was another player to miss the cut, which was set at the top 50 and ties at 3-over-par. Johnson had an erratic second round where he incredibly carded five birdies but still shot 3-over-par.

Brooks Koepka entered the week with injury concerns, but the four-time major champion shot rounds of 74 and 75 and missed the cut at The Masters for the first time in his career.

Koepka was visibly frustrated at missing the cut at Augusta and he used some choice language to show his frustration after his round.

World No.10 Patrick Cantlay shot 7-over-par in his opening round on Thursday and gave himself an almost impossible task of making the cut. His second-round score of 1-over-par was better but not enough to make the weekend.

Former Masters champions Danny Willett and Sergio Garcia were also notable players who have not made the weekend, while the in-form Lee Westwood finished on 5-over-par for his two rounds.

In happier news, Webb Simpson has made his 15th consecutive cut at major tournaments, which is currently the most of any player on the PGA Tour.

Xander Schauffele is three major cuts behind Simpson on 12, while Original Penguin ambassador Cameron Smith made his 10th consecutive major cut.
