Matthew Wolff has been disqualified from The Masters after signing for a wrong score on his scorecard in the second round at Augusta National.

Wolff, 21, had a poor start to the tournament, shooting a 4-over-par 76 and was 11 shots off the lead set by Englishman Justin Rose.

The American's week then went from bad to worse when he made a quadruple-bogey eight on the first hole of his second round, making it nearly impossible for Wolff to make the cut.

The World No.23 thought he had finished on Friday with a score of 79 and eight shots adrift from the cut mark of 3-over-par, but he was disqualified from the tournament for signing for a wrong score on the 17th hole.

Wolff has made two appearances at The Masters and has failed to reach the weekend on both occasions. Wolff's disqualification did not make a difference to his week as he would have missed the cut by some way.

The American has become an instantly recognisable player on the PGA Tour with his unique swing and his distinguished style has earned him success in his short career.

Wolff won the 3M Open in 2019 and he also has top-five finishes at the US PGA Championship and the US Open.

He also finished second behind Bryson DeChambeau at the US Open in September.

Wolff was not the only notable figure to miss the cut at The Masters this week as many of the world's best players also struggled at Augusta National.

Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka were amongst the big names who didn't meet expectations and make the cut mark of 3-over-par.
