Nick Faldo, arguably Britain’s greatest ever golfer and six times a major winner, established his career on accuracy and consistency. He didn’t lose many golf balls but appreciates what this can mean to the average player looking to improve.

It’s one of the reasons why he’s endorsing a revolutionary device, which made its debut in prototype form at last year’s London Golf Show and is now available in the UK from Sanderson Golf.

The hand-held Ball-Finder Scout, its makers claim, can locate ‘lost’ golf balls from 35 feet away, even deep in the rough and with only three dimples showing.

It’s digital imaging and tracking technology, using a video-based camera which can search up to 600 square feet in one second, can find a ball quickly, identifying its whereabouts with a screen image and vibration mechanism.

Says Faldo: "At every level in golf, everyone loses golf balls. With the BallFinder Scout, golfers are going to find their ball quicker. They’ll also play faster, have more fun and shoot better scores."

Sales Director of the Basingstoke based company, Andy Sanderson adds: "This is an amazing product that will revolutionise the way we play golf."

Though the device contravenes the Rules of Golf for competitive play (artificial devices Rule 14-3), it will be an obvious boon in social golf, especially to those less skilful and looking to spend less on replacing balls.

Priced at £148, each device comes with an instructional DVD, featuring hints and tips from Faldo, and a carry clip that can be attached to a golf bag or belt. It runs on two AAA batteries and features a low battery indicator.
