Golfmagic trio third in top pro-am
Competition winner's glory day
Congratulations to Golfmagic member Tony Barber from Denton in Lancashire, who won our recent competition to play in the Oceanico Group Pro-Am Challenge at Marriott Worsley Park Hotel in Manchester - a curtain-raiser to the European Challenge Tour event this week. Not only that but yesterday, Tony and two pals - Chris Hardy and Alan Barber - joined Oceanico group's Portuguese pro Tiago Cruz to finish third in the pro-am with a team score of 89 points - just six behind the eventual winners. The Oceanico Group Pro-Am Challenge - a four round event which starts today at Worsley Park is a unique event, as it sees leading Challenge Tour players competing over the first two days for places in the final two rounds. Played initially as a pro-am format, each professional plays alongside an amateur golfer on Thursday and Friday and then on his own at the weekend. The 2007 tournament was won by Ross McGowan after he defeated Frenchman Michael Lorenzo-Vera in a sudden death play-off. It was McGowan’s maiden professional victory and Lorenzo Vera went on to win the Challenge Tour order of merit to secure his presence on the main European Tour in 2008. |
