Millennium Pairs Classic

This year sees the second staging of the highly acclaimed Millennium International Pairs Golf Classic, perhaps the biggest Pairs tournament in the world open to all amateur golfers in the UK. has teamed up with Worldwide Leisure Marketing to offer up to date information about the tournament and give entrants the forum to upload all their results, scores and stories on the website throughout the year.

Some of the prizes on offer this year include.£2m of free golf on a selection of Golfing Ireland championship courses and 3 Waterford Crystal trophies worth £60,000.

Although entries for this year have already started coming in with over 400 clubs signed up to play already, it is not too late to get your club involved in the biggest pairs tournament of 2000.

Last year, over 45,000 amateur golfers entered the competition at club level, with 420 clubs participating in the initial stages. Over 4.5 million shots were played, 90,000 balls lost, 12,000 bunker shots extracted, and 100,000 pints of Guinness drunk in the 19th hole. And last year, Sky TV covered the finals at Mount Juliet Golf club and reached a huge audience. Not your average golf tournament!

Tournament director Ross Honey of Worldwide Leisure Marketing said,

“Following the tremendous success of the event last year we are delighted with this additional support from Waterford Crystal and Golfing Ireland this year. Every participant in the event will be given a free round of golf worth £30. They will have an opportunity of playing on a choice of up to 20 of the best courses in Ireland”.

To take part in the event, each club must hold a pairs competition qualifying round where the winners are guaranteed an all expenses paid trip to Ireland for the semi finals and finals.

All your club committee or secretary has to do is organise a Pairs event before the closing date in September with a minimum of 25 Pairs entries. The cost for each player is £5 to enter the tournament.
The event is open to any form of pairing, Men's, Ladies and Mixed, with the finals held in Ireland in three formats for the respective pairings. Your club can even have three qualifying tournaments for each category if it wishes, guaranteeing three pairs passage through to the semi finals, held on seven of the best courses in Ireland.

For every club event played around the UK, they will have at least one pairing guaranteed an all expenses paid trip to Ireland including a return ferry crossing with car by Stena Line ferries, Bed and Breakfast accommodation, a welcome reception and tremendous prizes.

The top 80 players who qualify from the semi finals will go on to challenge for the magnificent trophy in the final at the 5 star Slieve Russell Golf and Country Club.

The £20,000 Waterford Crystal Trophy was won by a pair from Cottrell Park Golf Club last year and has been the centre of attraction whenever it has been on display. So valued is the prize, Cottrell Park have insured their prize possession and it is a talking point whenever visitors to the club see it. This year, there are two further competitions for ladies and mixed pairs, each with its own £20,000 Trophy.

The finalists will stay for three nights at Slieve Russell with full use of the facilities. And for making the final, there will be a champagne reception, along with an 'event logoed' Hippo tour bag, Glenmuir clothing and Titleist golf balls for every player to remember their success.
