Radar fined for drunken outburst

After a three hour meeting last night between Australian PGA Tour officials, Wayne Riley was fined over his abusive and drunken behaviour on a flight from Johannesburg to Perth last week.

At the meeting in Sydney, the panel found Riley guilty of bringing the game into disrepute after a bust up with another passenger.

The incident was brought to the attention of the tour by an airline officer who described Riley as "the most violent, ugliest, most rude human being on the earth".

And after yesterdays hearing, Riley, known as Radar on tour, was told to get professional help to combat his anger outbursts.

In a prepared statement, the player formerly known as “The Wild Colonial boy” said:

"I sincerely regret any embarrassment my behaviour has caused both tours, my family and the game.

"I want to put this issue behind me and I will undertake to resolve my behaviour problems and adhere to the requests of the (Australian) PGA Tour in relation to my problem."

A spokesman for South African Airlines explained that Riley was acting in a "violent manner towards other passengers" and only calmed down when he was threatened with restraining handcuffs during the flight.

But in his defence, Riley claimed that he was drinking heavily because he is a nervous flyer.

And fellow Australian Brett Ogle was also fined an undisclosed amount after smashing a tee marker and injuring a spectator in the process. The woman received a cut to her eye from a fragment of the marker.

Ogle has since apologised to the woman and she is said to be "More than happy with the outcome".
