Aldrich Potgieter withdrew from the John Deere Classic after the third round.
The young South African, who captured his first PGA Tour title last week at the Rocket Classic, carded a third round of 76 at TPC Deere Run on Saturday.
His score saw him tumble down the leaderboard to 58th on 4-under.
The official PGA Tour communication's department confirmed the golfer had withdrawn from the tournament a short time later.
No explanation was immediately provided why the 20-year-old withdrew.
He was 9-under through the first two days in Illinois and within striking distance of the lead after 36 holes.
Davis Thompson held the 54-hole lead.
The American, who is the defending champion, birdied his final two holes on Saturday to reach 14-under par.
Thompson leads Max Homa, David Lipsky, Emiliano Grillo and Brian Campbell by one stroke.
Jason Day, Tom Kim, Ben Griffin were among the notables that missed the cut.
Germany's Stephan Jaeger withdrew after round one, sparking concern among golf fans.
