It's been 2,702 days since Michael Thompson's maiden PGA Tour victory at the 2013 Honda Classic, but the wait for another win is finally over after the American held his nerve to win the 3M Open on Sunday.

Thompson played an incredible 40-yard bunker shot at the 16th hole to leave a tap-in for birdie to take the lead, before the 35-year-old made a par at the testing par-3 17th and finished his final round off with a birdie at the par-5 18th.

"This win validates the first win," said Thompson. "It solidifies my presence on the PGA Tour and proves to my peers that I'm a threat every week and that's what I want to be."

Thompson took home the winner's share of $1,188,000 whilst Adam Long, who put together scores of 63 and 64 over the weekend, earned $719,400 for second place.
