A pensioner has appeared in court after attacking a female chaplain while being disgusted at a new crazy golf course having been built inside Rochester Cathedral.

According to a Sky News report, Michael Feeney, 67, reportedly had two glasses of wine before "grabbing a woman by the throat and swearing at visitors including children."

Female chaplain Margaret Moore had been worried about Mr Feeney, who had been sat outside the cathedral, so she went outside to speak to him.

Witnessess claim Mr Feeney shouted abuse at Mrs Moore as he complained about the cathedral's new crazy golf course.

Mr Feeney apparently left the building and returned an hour later, only to smell of alcohol.

One witness heard Mr Feeney shout: "This isn't f****** Disneyland, this is a f****** cathedral, this is a f****** disgrace."

The report claims Mr Feeney also tried to hit catherdral verger Joseph Miller, before police arrived to arrest him.

Mr Feeney has since pleaded guilty to engaging in riotous, violent or indecent behaviour in a church, chapel or churchyard under the Ecclesiastical Courts Jurisdiction Act 1860.

He also pleaded guilty to one count of common assault, and reports claim he apologised for his behaviour during the case.

"I am extremely ashamed about it. I am trying to be a nice person," he said. "I am not against the cathedral at all. I go into there to pray sometimes."

Mr Feeney has been given a 12-month conditional discharge and has been asked to pay £85 in costs.

Rochester Cathedral decided to create a crazy golf course inside its church in a bid to attract young people, while teaching them about Rochester Bridge at the same time.
